chrsyler can suck my balls
 
driving my roommate to the train this morning the car (03 PT cruiser 2.4t) felt a bit sluggish and was making a couple odd noises. drop her off and head back home and there is absolutely no power what so ever. then i notice i can't hear the turbo making it sweet sweet music. first i thought maybe the a charge pipe was broken or the WG was stuck open. so i get home and start looking for the problem, chrage pipes, WG, exhaust, vac lines, everything checked out ok. decided to look in the intake box to see if i had a blockage of some sort, none, so i pull off the entire intake boot and look inside the turbo. what do i find?? not the compressor wheel nut >:( needless to say i am a bit pissed off about this. a rebuilt(hopefully it can be) turbo is in my future, the comp nut banged up the wheel and housing a bit and the shaft play is like nothing i have ever seen.
the compressor wheel nut managed to make it through the housing but the intercooler stopped the engine from sucking it in.


the car is out of warranty but i am going to try and get chrysler to cover it. at 113k or any mileage the turbo shouldnt be falling apart like that especially since the car is bone stock and an automatic. maybe some shaft play and a bit of coking but not coming apart while i am driving.

Heh, that's shitty. I didn't know they had turbo pt's. Chrysler does suck balls, this is known.

we probably haven't heard of this much simply because not many pt losers have made it to 113k

are you serious?? my mom's neighbor has one and hasnt had any issues.

any one know somebady selling a stock 2.4t turbo setup?

who makes the turbo? mitsu???? i doubt its a unit "made by chrsyler"

those turbo pt losers are spunkier than you'd think they were

its a 16g turbo, but it spins backwards. its the same unit on the srt.


i was suprized at how wuick it was, 220hp doesnt seem like much for a car this big but it works. 15.3-15.5 1/4 mile easy

I prefer 220hp in a somewhat reliable 2000lb crx :D

I'm curious how the turbo ecotec sky/solstice rides...

Chrysler started using SSAutochrome turbo's in '02.

i was unable to speak with the service manager but found out a new turbo is only $700, much less than i though. and that is with the mani so i dont have to take it apart.


$400 rebuild/upgrade or $700 for a new stocker ???

$700... you're kidding, right? You can't be serious about wanting to get it for that much. Go grab a sc61 :P

from the dealer that isnt bad, plus i will have way less downtime. this is my "reliable" car :S



too bad its an auto and mopar says it can only handle a stg1 package (ecu, injectors, intake, exhaust) or i would crank the boost

Just buy a used one off srtforums.com.

They pop up there all the time.. for $100-200... when people swap out to larger turbos.

Hamilton's (local) SRT-4 was a basemodel with the cats cut out, boost controller, and 22R fuel rail. 309whp, and puts a stage 3 SRT-4's dick in the dirt. Manual transmission, though.

Those 2.4 turbo setups are retarded. Exhaust housing is part of the exhaust manifold. :3 Why in the world would you be driving a PT loser anyways....daily driver or not. Hell my wife won't even drive one of those homofied sleds.

btw it isn't a 16g. it's a mitsubishi TD04LR-15GK-6cm. you can get the stock turbo from other srt4 turbo's for like 125 dollars on the srtforums they are plentifull and usually have low mileages. if your smart you'd just get the compressor housing without the gay manifold/turbine housing. it's not hard to install. with some simple hand tools, it'll probably take a whole 30 mintues tops to get it in the pt.

but if you like more power. you should look into the super stock turbo the srt guys are raving over. basicly the stock turbo is molsted with a 16g mated onto a 15g housing with a td04 centersection. for 500 dollars more the average joe can pass smog and get an extra 50whp on the stock boost #.

300whp is the average you can get out of this turbo with full bolt-ons but with the super stock people are dyno in at 300Whp without any bolt-ons

just a tidbit, ptp performance a vendor at the srtforums does the job if you were interested

i talked to him, he'll have to order a wheel since these are reverse spinning. if i go thourgh him i might upgrade the wheel since the housing is scarred up and needs to be machined anyways

I had a lebaron as my very first car, it lasted a month. Oil pump failed on thie highway. After that I bought a honda and raped it till 500K on the Odometer, cracked an exhaust valve and kept raping it on 3 cylinders. Eventually I swapped to an A6 and got rid of the car a year later.

Honda > Chrysler
