Re:Cheap computers to buy online?

I personally prefer dell.com. Sometimes they will have good deals on their computers with free shipping, free memory upgrade and all that stuff. You can buy from both Home and also Small Business. If you buy from Small Business just put your name as the Business Name.

A couple of good site to keep an eye on are www.dealcatcher.com and www.dealnews.com Both are updated daily with good deals and sometimes freaken awesome deals.

I'm sure you could get a much faster computer elsewhere for the same price as the dell's but I personally like dells--although I've heard people having problems with them and that their customer service NOW sucks (it was ranked as one of the best a few years back...)

I hope this helps...

Outpost.com has some good deals on ready to go systems its the same as frys electronics wich is the ------ hugest electronics store Ive ever seen. Do youll have those in washington? for 479 you can get a compaq with 15inch flat screen with same day shipping.

Re:Cheap computers to buy online?

If you have some technical Knowledge (Im sure you do)
try

www.pricewatch.com

Not really a sales site really, but takes surveys from a lot of online computer suppliers and gives you the lowest possible price on any particular item.

check out their deals on "BareBones" Systems. You can usually get away with about 200$ for something decent, but this usually means no software.(fine if you already have it)

Re:Cheap computers to buy online?

wtf, dell has a buss license in every state so that means sales tax!

Re:Cheap computers to buy online?

check your local newspaper too. I can get a flat screen Philips Monitor for $150CDn so 399+120 is in his price range.

Re:Cheap computers to buy online?

get the dell computer and just find a monitor elsewhere. Also note that the home and small business have differen deals going on at the same time.

Be careful with some of those sites on pricewatch. Just because they are rich enough to put ads on pricewatch doesnt mean they are reputable. Look for the BBB signs...

Re:Cheap computers to buy online?

Im down w/ Pricewatch and similar searches.
Barebones system + a little assembly = Jew deal.
Plus as a bonus you dont get some gay looking case.

Re:Cheap computers to buy online?

ubid.com has some deals on computers and monitors. If you keep up on the auctions you can get decent prices. I got all my home theater ---- dirt cheap from them. Just be aware of the shipping they charge...

or just go Dell. I just got a 2400 2.2Ghz with monitor, CD-R, speakers, keys, mouse, and upgraded memory for 400 after rebate.

Re:Cheap computers to buy online?

Only computer company I've had problems with is HP. Customer Support was great, but the pc's suck ass. Compaq is good, never had any real problems with them. But I'd recommend Dell, they're the best IMO.

davcivic 06-01-2004 02:47 PM

Re:Cheap computers to buy online?

Compaq=HP now. I had an HP pc a few years back, nothing but problems. Dell's seem to be pretty good, and they are cheap right now.

Re:Cheap computers to buy online?

I agree with everyone with DELL. I used to be an avid computer builder. I always built my own computers with quality parts. Then one day, I saw a good ass deal for a dell that was to good to pass up. Well guess what, my DELL has been rock solid, easy to work on (like a honda), and really quiet. They really do kick ass.

check out half.com by egay.

http://half.ebay.com/products/computers/index.cfm

Re:Cheap computers to buy online?

I went to all the websites you guys suggested, and couldnt find a better deal other than Dell. I didnt want to "just go build one" its not like this guy is paying me, and I want him to have preloaded software, warranty and all that ----. So for a brand new 2.4ghz (not a celron) 80gig drive, 17in monitor, printer, cdrw/cd free shipping etc etc, we got it for 507 bucks.

Decent eh?

Jeff

Re:Cheap computers to buy online?

only probelem with computers like dells is that everythings on the motherboard and if its fried your fucked. all you can save is the hard drive. but hell he could always send it back to dell to have them fix it and you wont have to pay out the ass for software "assuming this guy wont pirate software" so go dell

How hard is it to complete the computer if you buy a "bare bones system" from price watch. I mean when trying to install windows is it all just on screen prompts.??

Where the hell do you live? The last pawn shop that was around here dropped out of business a good 15 years ago.. That'd be sweet though to have one here.

do a dell!

pricewatch.com is turned into a big scam, most of the time you cant get the product at the advertised price. Alot talk and no computer.

no theres a few but after like 3 screens after you select what drive windows is going to be ran on. "you would just have it use the full disk because you wouldent have any partitions created" you get a graphical interface and its cake. MH kids could do it.

Everybody should build a computer once in their life; and then when you realize you can get better quality ---- for a lower price and it comes preassembled (with a warranty), you'll just buy from Dell from that point forward :P

every peice of hardware i own my motorboard my processor my graphics card all of it has a manufacturs warente that pcclub will exchange my ---- for also they have like a 3 month warentee on everything they sell. dell is pretty shitty when it gets down to the nitty gritty

Re:Cheap computers to buy online?

I built the computer I'm running right now, and the last one I built ran for 7 years until it melted(removed the cpu fan...). If you can build an engine or work on a car then you can build a comp, it's really plug and play, just different plugs...

Re:Cheap computers to buy online?

dell is definately NOT the best thing that has happened into the computer world. But like Will said, if you try to find the best prices from whatever shop and assemble a computer on your own to the same specs as the dell, you'll only save probably like 50-100 bux but look at the time that took you to build it, waiting for it, researching the product, etc. You also have to pay for shipping and taxes.. blah blah blah. Bottomline its a hassle if its just for a $500 system. I would only build another computer again if it was for a $2000+ system. Even then I'd have to think about it. I've built enough computers to realize that Dell is the way to go or a preassembled system is the way to go. Stay FAR away from HP and Compaq and those damn "e" computer ----...

Re:Cheap computers to buy online?

back in the day I built a pentium 2 for 500 (i was 13 just to show you how easy it was) and they were selling for 1200 and up... You can get year old processors, year of mb's and the such for dirt cheap and spend the rest on other cards. Depends really on what your freind wants, you could build a slow ass pos for under 200.

Re:Cheap computers to buy online?

if you want I'll talk to a guy in the next apartment who's going for a comp science degree, I'm sure he could scrounge up something for dirty sheep.

Re:Cheap computers to buy online?

uhh it took me like 20 minnutes to get my box together running and all the drivers installed.. and im sure theres someone in your town who sells everything you need to build one.
