Default CF crx trunk lid

What do you guys think of these vis carbon fiber crx trunk lids. They only weigh 17lbs w/o glass. Has anyone ever weighed their trunk lid or had it off to feel how heavy it is? I am sure the windows are probably a lot of the weight too. I found that FAL makes molded acrylic windows for the back and the back sides of a crx along with other honda and acuras. I think this would reduce quite a bit of weight.

IMO, unless your going to install a lightweight lexan window, it's worthless other than looks. One more thing to keep in mind though is those Lexan windows do not come with rear defroster's so if it's a daily driver, you might want to re-consider. Theres other areas of the car that weight can be removed.

To me they seem like such a waste of money, I looked at the race creation website and that hatch goes for $475. I guess if you already had your rex stripped and were making a race car then it would be worth it to save a couple pounds but why not just get a spare hatch from the junk yard and cut all the excess metall and supports off and put a lexan or maybe just plexi glass and swap it for track days? It would cost alsmost nothing to do that and probably save youa round the same amout of weight. I don't know I'm chaep and don't care if it looks like ---- as long as its fast!!

yeah everything priced out including the acrylic windows would be about $900. I dont think I could justify spending that much eather but I think it would probably reduce 150+lbs or so.

might as well get a fiberglass one. I'm thinking about getting one, but probably won't cause that's a couple hundred bucks I don't wanna spend.

just make the whole hatch outta polycarbonate (lexan)

you can form that stuff in a press break to make the bend down on the back end, then just rivet the whole thing in and silicone seal it or something.

I think it looks good but not practical for daily drivers

Just to throw some truthful info in the thread, those hatches weigh less than 6.5lbs without glass

The oem hatch without glass is only like 26 or something

SO WHATS THE MONEY SAVER/SMART SOLUTION

replace the stock glass with a piece of normal plexi glass for $48 (6'X6" @ home depot, clear, scratch resistant coating)

Im doing that on my spare hatch, just gotta remove the stock glass and Ill tint the plexi I think

i think carbon fiber looks cool carbon fiber (wow that was redundant)

also painting it to match the car though is also nice.

i like the cf trunks they have for the coupes. and for other cars.. i.e. srt-4s

its a lot of money though.. just wait til someone buys one and they messes up their car and then lowball, the true american way. or.. hmt way..
