CD burning aggravation, any ideas geeks? Bout to just kill someone.

Every time I burn a CD, I get partway thru and it freezes up. Light on the burner stops flashing, and it just sits at whatever % it wants.

Have burned several CD's in the past with success.

Any thoughts?

Also, what programs are you guys using to burn iso image format? I am having this trouble using Nero Express, pretty recent version.

I use Nero (full version, i have one if u need it), Roxio, and discjuggler. Are you running other programs while burning? if so you might be runnin outta memory and using too much of yer CPU

I use the burning program that came with my burner. Any nero software should work fine though. Have you tried re-installing the software?

Ever since my last "Windows upgrade" my burner has been acting up on me. It really pisses me of sometimes. I can't burn alot of songs I have burned in the past and I can't burn playlists anymore. I have to transfer each individual song into the burn thing, and even then most of the time it fucks up. :-\ It used to work flawlessly. :( Some of my songs don't have a "length" on them so it gets all confused when I try to burn one of thsoe and says "will not fit" and nothing happens. ::)

Doc boost, you didnt install SP2 by chance did you?

Try reinstalling the software. Also, don't do anything while it is copying, my grandfathers computer just went ---- one day and stopped wanting to burn CD's unless you were doing absolutely nothing at all :-\

Re:CD burning aggravation, any ideas geeks? Bout to just kill someone.

its either your program settings, your firmware for the drive, your settings on the drive(master, slave), or your drive is just fucked. my homeboy had both of his cd/dvd drives jumpers set to master. i dont know how, but both drives actually worked? anyway, when he asked me to look at why he keeps making coasters/frisbees, it turned out to be the jumpers. make sure you set one to master, one to slave, and put the ide cable on correctly. i doubt the firmware is an issue, since you have already made successful burns. you can check for a firmware flash from the manufacturer if you want though. maybe uninstall/reinstall the program, or try another? just tossing out suggestions.

anyways i use nero in windows and k3b in linux/unix.

I don't have a ------- clue what SP2 is, but I dunno?

I don't do ---- when it's burning(or trying to). I always just let it sit and do it's thing. :-\

just use nero, most the other programs will give you a shitty cd to coaster ratio

Re:CD burning aggravation, any ideas geeks? Bout to just kill someone.

just using Nero will not fix your problem. I for one have Nero, and mine does the exact same thing that Fook's does. i've labeled it as being something corrupt in the computer itself. ie, not enough memory, disc memory, corrupt software files (even though i completely got rid of nero and re0installed it and it still won't work) etc. my only option now is to re-install xp and start over. cuz mine will only go to about 8% then stop, red light comes on on the burner and the system freezes. it's a ------- nightmare. only solution is manual shutdown and an ejeciton of a now worthless cd-r.

good luck Fook my man, i'd just suggest a reformat and you should be good to go. :)

or you could just be lazy like me...dlete a bunch of worthless crap off your computer, and use the ghetto way to burn a cd through windows media player. i don't think you can make mp3's or data cd's. but a good ol audio will work just fine. just limit your selections to 25 or under total files and /or 75-80 mins or under total mins and you're on fire! :-*

yeah alcohol 120 didnt work, it died at 100%, but I can mount it like a hard drive and pull the ---- outta the iso so im set.

also my burner is a 4x from like 1999, maybe its time for new stuff. ;D

wtf mary...pat....everyone forget how aim works tonite?

Re:CD burning aggravation, any ideas geeks? Bout to just kill someone.

Eh, I wouldn't go and reformat your hard drive quit yet, thats the ----- way to get out of things, instead of just eliminating the problem ::)

Reinstall the program and get rid of useless ---- on your pc and work from there. If you feel the need to reformat your hard drive, make sure you dont ---- up and make sure your partition is set at 100% so you don't waste any space

Re:CD burning aggravation, any ideas geeks? Bout to just kill someone.

in Fook's case it probably isn't necessary, but it's a good way to ensure everything will be working right again. in my case however, it's a must. my computer is fucked up and has been for a long time. i'm just lazy and don't have a second hd to put some of my stuff on. but i've been through all this before on here. no need to repeat it all.

good luck fookz0rs :P

maybe it ran out of space on the cd.. or the cd is scratched. i have had this happen to me before.

Re:CD burning aggravation, any ideas geeks? Bout to just kill someone.

Eh, true. Fook, just borrow someones hard drive and connect it on the IDE cable right beside the other one. Make sure it is jumpered correctly (Slave or Master, or to be safe Cable Select), plug in power and you're good to go :-*

Use Roxio man its better in burning in music. EAsy interface. Also what is the spec on your computer, how muh free space you got on HD? And when was the last time your defrag your HD? thoes thing matters in burning

Bingo.

I remember paying $400+ for a 2x when then came out. Then I returned it to Costco for a 32x and enough cash left over for a nice printer. :)

I use Nero for ISO's no prob. Although mounting an ISO is a better way, especially for games and ----.

Re:CD burning aggravation, any ideas geeks? Bout to just kill someone.

^ werd, way way back I remember buying a 4x... went for the big guns son. I thought that ---- was FAST! ---- cost and arm anda leg too, but it paid itself off after time ;)

A program I liked to use before was cdrwin, it worked great for me, but now I use nero, only because I have it readily available with the serial code. cdrwin, I'd have to do the huntin' all over again.

oh yeah and a new burner wouldn't hurt. I just picked up a 4x dual layer dvd burner ;D

ya man go get a new cdrw.. they're cheap.

For every1 worried about installing SP2 on a sp1 xp install why not integrate the SP2 INTO your installation CD...

here are some instructions.. easy to do...

NOTE: If you decide to do this, there is one step where it says to Run 'CMD', actually run 'COMMAND'.

or tell ur local computer shop to give you a copy of WinXP with SP2. I tried that ---- off tomshardware but i had problmes when i was doing it and its easier to get a real copy since MS is producing WinXp with SP2 already integrated.

open up you drive. linspect it carefully wuhere the lens move sup and down its track with a screw. something is wrong that the lens gets stuck.

in windows i alwase used to use nero. but then i found another program. let me think of the name....
[me=kain]thinks...[/me]
oo ok.

stomp record now max 5.

i dont know if yall have used it, but its a bunch better thanb nero. sometimes nero will also freeze, and youy would have to sut and wait for like 10 minutes for it to start again, rememmber, if it doesnt stup by istself, dont stop it. nero is buggy, and sometimes it fucks up, but i found out that 100% of the time, it burns correctly, and if it stays idle at a certain percentage, then let it sit.

you have a light on burner like me, i dont know about you, but besides plextore and all the other shitty ones, lite on is one of the best.

so get stomp recorde now max, and try using that. if nothing happens... then... get a new lite on drive. see if that works. if nothing works, take your computer apart completely, and reconnect everything.

Re:CD burning aggravation, any ideas geeks? Bout to just kill someone.

i don't think it's a matter of the lens getting stuck. fook and i have the exact same problem. both using nero. both having used it many a time in the past without problems. now all of a sudden it doesn't work. i'll bet if he has media player10 and went to burn a cd, it'd work just fine. as mine does. it's not the hardware. that's all i can say.

kain 12-15-2004 10:26 AM

Re:CD burning aggravation, any ideas geeks? Bout to just kill someone.

could be, but toots, i gave numerous ways to fix it.

the only reason why id dint have any problems was because i never updated my computer unless it apolutly needed to be updated. untill i got screwed and i upgraded by leaps and bounds to linux. after that, its been about the same as windows. either headaches, or stars, and i mostly get stars simple cus linux is superior. i dont think i will ever go back to windows.
