Re: The cavy carnage pics
the NVT550, which is what im assuming when ur talking about the HO trans.
it wont take more than 300whp.
Guys have done 400whp runs on them and they've lasted for a while.
youve read up on the internal upgrades to do to them over at JBO.
either way good lukc dood.
if you need a long block, ive got one from a 98 cav kicking here i wanna get rid of.

pete. get a getrag tranny. i remember seeing someone who swapped one into there cavy. i forgot what year cavy it came off of. but the newer and older cavy's have the getrag tranny in em. supposed to hold up very well to lots of power.

Re: The cavy carnage pics
90-92 getrag/ muncie hm282 wont work easily as they are an external slave style trans
93-94 New Venture NVT550 are internally slaved and will hold the same power as the earlier style units.
95-99 isuzu MK1/MJ7 trans are weak and break under minimal loads.
00+ getrag units are worse off than the earlier units. As well the driver side front frame trans bracket needs to be cut and moved up a few inches for the mounts to work.
axles are all pretty much interchangable. 96-98 got the half shaf/jack shaft style axles which are a little nicer than the unequal length axles.

Re: The cavy carnage pics
they are apparently rated for 320 whp.
I dont remember where i read that. It was in an article posted on jbo a few years ago. i havent been there in a long time though.
Although rated to 320whp, the only ppl i know that were able to do a 400whp pass on that trans was *i think* John Mackleer and Rocky. Although I dont know what Rocky ran on his last pass with his turbo W41, before the head gasket blew at the jbo bash 2yrs ago.
Make sure you replace the spider gears with the units out of the isuzu impluse as they were made out of harden steel unlike the units in the getrag units made out of powder steel.
good luck dood, cant wait to see what the finished product will do.

Thats some pretty delicious block breakin
How often do people boost cavaliers? Theres a crew of about 3 or 4 guys that i kno from the local meet up spot that have boosted z24's, and one of em is supposed to be realy quick, but i've never seen any of em run. There was this other boner with a boosted one from another spot, real cocky, talked alot of trash but i was never able to get a run out of him. Are there a lot of fast ones? I gotta bunch of newb questions cus at first i thought it was rare but i'm seein more and more ppl with em nowadays.

Re: The cavy carnage pics
this graph is from a 02 cav with a 2.2L motor
the shop owner posted this info:
This is the J-Tuners 2.2 litre turbo kit. it includes:
Super 60 Turbo
Tial 38mm wastegate with 5.6 psi spring
RC 310cc injectors
Manifold, fittings, etc.
It's also got the optional FMIC kit (which has a LOAD of piping), so boost was 4.6psi.
The custom 2.5" downpipe helped out too.
