car sounds ricey-er every day
i got exhaust made at boost factory like 2 months ago (cause i cant weld for ----) anyways dude does nice work or whatever but he used a $20 cherry bomb turboII muffler which sounded good at first. my exuast is turbo back 2.5" no res or cat nothin. its not loud or at least wasent, now its getting raspy at like 2-3k range. sounds fine after that theres just a certain range it makes that farty sound i hate
is this just the cheap muffler going to ---- fast? should i get a high flow cat or a resinator ? or just a better muffler? |
Re: car sounds ricey-er every day
Most turbo cars even open downpipe has no rasp at all
Cherry bomb even worked for me n/a |
Re: car sounds ricey-er every day
I'm pretty sure cherry bombs wear out pretty quickly.

Re: car sounds ricey-er every day
indeed they do. should have got a resonator and a magnaflow muffler yO!

Re: car sounds ricey-er every day
I had a cherry bomb turbo muffler, then it ripped when a rock hit the underside of it. After running it a few hundred miles, taking it apart after it broke to see the insides i cant say im impressed. I replaced it with a cheaper Thrush turbo muffler. While comparing the two of them the Thrush is better constructed. The cherry bomb has less holes for exhaust to go into "turbo straight through mode" and the ones it does look like somone took a drill too. The thrush has more holes that are slightly louvered. In both mufflers i found that they went to straight through, where the exhaust passes through the holes and into the next pipe that exits, too quickly. The thrush also has slight bulges on the ends where the holed pipes meet the wall of the muffler that prevents the gasses from slamming into a perpindicular surface. The thrush also is larger, and slightly just slightly quieter. I suggest a glasspack resonator before the turbo to kill some of the higher frequencies.
Niether turbo muffler provides great sound but kills some rasps you have when running open header and tones it down slightly. The flowmasters are more chambered and thats why they probably sound better. |

thats the packing of the muffler "breaking in" haha

Re: car sounds ricey-er every day
well i just picked on of these up at checker for $59 http://www.magnaflow.com/02product/s...ne=main&id=424
now my car is just loud. no rasp but loud. well probly a little cause the tip is shooting into my rear bumper cover a little and probly cause i need a resinator. so do those cheap red tube ones rust out as fast as somone told me? cause im tryin to find one cheap, and if they rust i might just clamp it in instead of having it welded. |

Try a Dynomax Super Turbo if you can catch them on sale, and use a turndown |
Re: car sounds ricey-er every day
The Dynomax Super Turbo I had on my car worked great...just very quiet. It had some tone to it, but not alot. Almost like a rumble down low, but when you started climbing up past 3500 rpm it pretty much got so quiet you could barely hear it. But believe it or not, it actually had better flow than some straight through design fart can that i slapped up there real quick after i caught the Dynomax on a rock...I had 14 psi with the dynomax, after with the fart can it would only boost to 10 psi.
