I've never had a singe problem with my Renault LeCar. The 3-lug wheels are nice too, I can rotate my tires 25% faster than if I had the stupid overkill 4-lug wheels.

ford focus is rated one of the 10 worst cars when it comes to its crash test ratings.

He drives a CRX and is looking for a reliable car.

I don't think crash test ratings are a concern of his.

I voted focus, only because I've known people with problematic neons.

Re: Which car are more durable?

focus with a manual trans, they are pretty reliable cars, just don't get the early sohc, also the thermostat housing will probualy leak

the car is unsafe. who cares about reliability.

On average it scored better for front impact than the neon did, and it was only slightly less safe for side impacts.

I guess safety is a good thing to consider, but being that he drove a CRX, I just don't see it as being entirely too important to him.

Re: Which car are more durable?

for overall reliability i would go focus. they can be pretty fun too.

if your just ------- around with it get an older neon. light as ---- and you can make them handle with a little work

Re: Which car are more durable?

Focus have a variant of the Mazda B engine = billet/forged crank and an iron block [sic].

The only problems they have occasionally/regularly are electrical, i.e. ignition things. Tranny is a Mazda unit as well I believe, gearing not unlike the old Kias.

thats cause they DO suck ass, its just the lesser piece of ---- when compared to the neon... anyone here will agree a toyota or honda will be 10x more reliable.

both are pices of ---- civic FTW, ps have you seen the ford commercial where they advertise "now a ford is just as reliable as a Toyota"

Yeah, toyota bitched because it was "initial quality" they were talking about. The funny thing is, back when toyota was on its reliability throne, "initial quality" was the same factor they were touting. Now they're bitching when ford does the same thing.

Re: Which car are more durable?

I`ve driven both and If i had to choose I`d pick the focus.

As a DD I`d get the 2.0 push rod engine, its pretty peppy for what it is, enough low end power around tow.The ride is more cushioned then the neon, yet it handles pretty good for what it is that it actually surprised me.

But within the price range I`d buy a corolla instead, they are better car over all and the least likely to break down.

They both suck!

BUT

The focus has ignition cylinder issuses, I have towed many where the key just won't turn anymore and the springs like to break.

Neons are gay I hate them.

Buy an old rolla or camry

1988 corolla or celica, and be done. spend $200 more and save yourself SEVERAL hundred if you plan on keeping it, previous owner care included. don't buy a car thats hacked up.

this is true, we had one coming in with some old lady, it was under warranty and I couldn't get it to lock up again until I turned the car off in drive, than put it in park. She locked up the cylinder in our loaner focus too. But we've had several come in with this issue where people were'nt doing odd things

I have never seen one for sale. If I ever do though it will be mine.

I'd have to pick a Focus. I don't really mind the looks of them too much. I've seen some low mileage Focus's with horrible engine noise and serious issues, but I've also seen the same in Neons. :-\ They are both ---- IMO, but the Focus gets my vote.

My boss bought a ~2000 Neon for his daughter brand new. It has around 75k miles on it now, religous oil changes and maintanence, and runs like a pile of piss. The wife has been driving it as a beater to save miles on her DD for the past couple of years so it hasn't seen any hard driving and still came up with issues long before 100k. :-\

An old manager of mine asked a coworker why he bought a "disposable car" when he got a neon. I've never owned either vehicle, but if I had to choose it would be the focus for a DD. I've seen many people have problems with their neons, none with focus issues. Why don't you just save some money and go buy a beater Honda instead? Will be slow but reliable, or able to be fixed easily and for cheap. Not to mention you'll save money on gas and insurance as well.

Maybe we should ask Guilleume from Blaastperformance, he likes Turbo Focus and Preludes, i think that is a positive vote for focus

Re: Which car are more durable?

also the thermostat housing will probualy leak
that piece of ----!!!!
replaced my sisters t-stat housing twice
thought origonal mechanic over torqued the first one, t wrenched the second, it cracked, went slightly less on the third it also died.
Buddy found me a ss replacement
in the focus's defense it was in an older mercury "Mistake"(same 2.0 ztec dohc), perhaps ford did something in the later models, though not likely

accordepicenter 05-28-2008 11:47 PM

Re: Which car are more durable?

90-93 Accord is a much better choice if you can find one for cheap. Id say it depended on the year focus or neon, they are both pretty bad

I'm a Ford guy but I know better than to go near a Focus :X

BTW are we talking new here or HMT nog price range?

Re: Which car are more durable?

i bought a slammed black Neon Rt (165 hp engine) with a black widow body kit and wheels for 400 ------- dollars because it needed a fuel pump. spent a total of 540 dollars on it.

that fucker was fun as hell to drive, chirped 2nd gear

then i flipped it going 120 mph. (i have pictures)

the neon is a more reliable car, and easier to fix than the ------- ford. i hate ford its the design of imbreeds.

Re: Which car are more durable?

dude a friend of mine rallied a neon every day and raced every car that came near him (yeah he was "that guy" lol). he out ran the cops in a neon and a yellow shirt so ever sonce then i can honestly say that i will trust a neon to bail me out of a tuff situation.

if you want to hear the story read on, if not read the next post.......

ok, so some guy a week earlier at his school had a gsr teg that thought he was the ----, he said somethign about his neon beating his ass and the gsr owner laughed (as would i). a week later on a saturday night........well i had my scanner on me that night and was cruising around talking to frinds and just seeing whats up, had my chic with me. we stopped at a parking lot to say whats up to some friends. my friend in th eneon pulls up talking ---- about the gsr and how he never showed up. i tell him that he's a kid and it happens and not to count on anything till its set in stone.....he leaves after abit and me and my chic go up the road to the movie store to rent a video. when we get back in we ar in the middle of a car chace mon the scanner, straight though town. we notice that they arent around us anymore and start on our way home. officer says something about a neon at 90mph through red lights, i'm like "holy ---- thats nuts". we continue to my house and hear top speed of 110 down 16th Ave (i live off of that), it's a 35MHP zone all the way down. well they turn on a road near a frien of mines house and i'm like "what the ----?", starting to think it could be my friend. ends up ditchign the car and hoppiong fences and getting to my friends house. cops call out dogs and ---- and never find him. dumb ass left his student ID on his key chain which was in the car.

they made up some story abou thow he left it to get the brakes done and the machanic forgot the keys in it and stole it but somehow didn't report it stolen til a few hours after wards. anyways he got away from the cops in a neon so i will never doubt them again.

rreason for chase: him and GSR lined up at stop light and took off, both were even till shift to 3rd, friend looked over to see himself pulling the GSR and by how much, looked forward and assholled a minivan. being 15 without a license he decided to run with a busted radiator and all.

Cliff's notes:
got away but i still punched him in the buts because he thought it was cool
