Car lit on fire today!

---- what a day, was headed to the mall with my girl when all the sudden smoke started rolling out the dash. pulled over to check on it and i knew right away that it was the switch for my water injection set-up. The fucker fused together and burned up. Started up a bunch of ---- under my dash but i got it out right away. Nothing fucked up except the switch and wiring. Should have put that fucker on a fuse but i totally spaced it oh well.

note to self, whenever I bother wiring up my water injection, remember to put a fuse in.

Maybe you didn't read the part of Maximum Boost where Corky Bell said,

"A water injector on a turbo car is a poor excuse band-aid for not doing the job correctly the first time."

Good thing kyle has an apc fire extinguisher on his A pillar. lol

Corky bell is a grease monkey, not a scientist. His theories are based on opinions, not on facts.
His book has nice pictures though.

Re:Car lit on fire today!

No it wasn't the first date but that would be fucnny as hell. Actually i had the water injection system on just to clean out my engine. And i had to take it out today because the windshield wiper fluit ate my motor up.

Uh well i caught it quick so it only managed to start at the dimmer switch itseld and the surrounding plastic i had it mounted on the left side of my civic. I got real lucky good thing i didn't put the screws back in my panel or i'd be fucked just pulled thatr ---- back and blew it out God i need a fire extinguisher

Re:Car lit on fire today!

A fire extinguisher should be required by law in every car.

stealth corky bell also believes there's a 100% efficiency intercooler out there, good luck with that. my fire extinguisher (I'll get it installed later, I'm busy these days):

You should use a fuse and figure out that relays are your friend.

baldur 12-08-2004 08:44 PM

Re:Car lit on fire today!

Water injection has it's uses. It's a great way to cool the intake charge in conditions when the intercooler is not doing it's job too well. Don't use too much water though or it will start costing you power by taking away space that could be occupied by oxygen otherwise.
It's not an octane booster or anti-detonant by any means, but it does a really good job at stabilising charge air temperatures if applied correctly.

That is not possible, no matter what, it brakes the laws of physics.

Re:Car lit on fire today!

Its good for cleaning the engine, cat and lowering intake temps though

Always do things right, i've learned from doing things wrong. I had a fire from a cheap oil feed line which burst onto my hot turbo.

Always carry a fire extinguisher on a modified car (or even a stock one for that matter). I don't care how ricey it is, i have one mounted on my pillar now.

Re:Car lit on fire today!

Yeah I've seen so many straight out dangerous oil lines on this site, it just creeps me out.
I'll never run anything but steel pipe close to the turbo. I had a rubber oil line connected to the turbo once, but after 18 months or so the rubber line was all hard and fragile from the high temperatures, and it cracked and started leaking. Could have gotten ugly there. And it had a stainless steel braiding over it for protection.

absolutezroo 12-09-2004 07:08 PM

Re:Car lit on fire today!

my friend bought some 3/8th oil line (not fuel line) and its like 1/2inch thick outside and cost 4 dollars a foot...---- that braided steel can't be too much more then that
