car care.. (pics) warning mad jdm pics inside..

me and my roommates like very much to clean up our cars and usually make a day of it. when we first moved we would wash and wax about every weekend. now that winter is approaching quickly we are trying to prep the paint for a brutal battle with the salty ohio roads.. hope you enjoy the pics!

well i went with my roommate to the department store to get some car care products before winter slams us and we are both driving through piles of salt.

We both washed using meguiar's gold class car wash for the wash and then towel dried

Here are some before pics to see what they used to look like

the car i wanted before i bought my civic.. too bad the gsr's were too expensive for my 3800 purchase..
after a long drive on the interstate to school, it was nearly impossible to see a clear reflection in the paint

the pics that were taken were mostly blurry, this one shows some dirt, but in person it was extremely dirty

The products we bought

~$5 includes the applicator =) and if you open the package you can pack two in there.... ;)

~$13 does not include the cool little applicator

The liquid is 'supposed' to be a really good wax, it was the first time either one of us used it. My roommate ended up using zymol because when i started to use it.. it was white.. and my car is white.. hence the problem of having no idea where i was waxing and where i had finished. the meguiar's left a yellow color when let dry on the car --- good for seeing on a white car

As far as price the zymol is more expensive than the meguiar's but i have no idea which one will last longer. i have never made it through a whole can of paste, i always seem to lose them.

when applying the wax we both waxed in a circular motion and then removed with microfiber clothes (on sale 6 for $5) in a different pattern then when waxing.
-going in opposite directions can help get rid of and wax swirl marks

The after shots..

made the paint look like glass. i was very impressed with the results
(zymol wax)

the meguiar's did a with a shine on the white paint also

After having a class canceled at school we used the whole day to clean and wax both cars. The results were the same, both waxes worked great. I preferred the paste because it does not soak into the applicators like the lquid wax does.
The paint feels very slick on both cars and the shine is great.

The pics were difficult to illustrate how good the waxes worked, we spent the daylight washing and had to use the mad jdm parking garage for light, it was the only thing close on campus.

Here is a full car shot of both

the wheels have seen a few winters but what took off the clear on them was a tire/rim cleaner. some of these cleaners may eat the finish on the rims. the plan is to sand them down and get them re-cleared

Specs on car..

1997 acura integra gsr
ebay cold air
k/n filter
brembo stock replacement discs (all 4)
semi metallic pads
neuspeed lowering springs
100k and still running great!!

future plans.. turbo (if there are no more ebay scams going around... :3)

The meguiar's did a nice job on my civic when i had it also. it made the faded paint look nearly new. not as good as the integra though. the civic had some issues from the florida sun, rain, and local salty water
I am more than satisfied with the way it turned out on my car too

only other pic i have to see any glossyness

I have two other roommates but their cars are both mia due to fuel problems.

hopefully look for pictures in the summer =)

the cleaner wax works great for fine swirls and scratches because it is slightly abrasive. I'd toss on another coat of wax (meguiars nxt, for example) just for that added protection and shine.

You know what you guys should do, especially the guy with the integra and accord, clay the car and see how much dirt is on it. That integra is actually very filthy even after the wax. :S

But good work guys, detailing a car is tedious and I hate doing it, but after 2 years I think it's time to get to the nitty gritty on the one duece. I purchased like 300 in supplies and am still planning on purchasing more before i can start. I think it's gonna take at least 6 hours to do my car, it's black and the paint is TERRIBLE!

the piping that has the wrinkles in it will be replaced with either a 2in or 2.5 in aluminum pipe. we have access to our SAE facility which makes the race cars each season. we can gather up a few aluminum pipes for the job and we will just tig weld them there.

all and all it will be a difficult project - the owner does not want to get rid of anything on the car- keep a/c, washer fluid, fog lights... so these are some obstacles that will make the job not improssible but a little harder
