it was like 20 degrees here this mornig. i was leavin at 5am...

bout 2 mins down the road my amp gauge is goin crazy, i was like wtf lol. i drove like 5 more mins, and it went to 0. i was like ----... the next town is like 2 miles away. so i kept drivin. made it into a parking lot... i get out and i smell burning. i open the hood and my ---- alt was on fire!

i took off my sweatshirt and tried to smother it, but it burnt up my sweatshirt... luckily i had a bottle of water in my car, and i put out the fire with it. my stang was about this close | | to burning to the ground. i almost should've let it burn, full coverage!

the stock alt from 1988 wasnt too happy about the 20 degree weather!!!

the funny thing is my oil line to my passenger side turbo was right in the flames, but i put it out before it could do any damage to the hose lol

bought a new alt, $106, a new pigtail plug $11. shes good too go! chargin full power again

leeann was a champ and helped me put the new one in :P

HAHA. We've almost had this before. Primary wire broke of and grounded on our '70 Dart Swinger, Melted all the way back under the dash before we got the battery disconnected.

Those alternators have the main power feed going through a spade style conector, that has burnt many fords around the 88-89 years. Swap that ---- for a alt with a threaded lug in the back
