Car alarms?
 

I'm shopping for one, I had been considering a Clifford but now i'm flipping back and forth between that and a Viper... anyone have opinions? Yes I know they're both made by DEI, are there any major differences between the two that would make one cost more than the other? This would be going in a convertible, i'm paying extra for a proximity sensor, and i'm looking for a 2 way system. Prices I have found (installed) are from $350-$600.

there both made by the same company and basicaly do the same thing and cost just as much on egay.

thanks for the completely useless response that contains nearly the same info I posted. I will be having this installed by a shop, not "buying it on Egay". Anybody else? ???

im kind of stuck on clifford since they have the blackjaxx sytem, you can find it on the intelliguard 750 and 850

basically its a key pad that is a starter kill , once you start the engine from the first time you hit the brakes it starts a 30 second count down, if you dont put in the right key combo then the car will stall. it resets if you open the car door with the motor running, so say someone car jacks you, once the door opens to pull you out if they hit the breaks the car will stall in 30 seconds.


to my knowledge viper offers nothing like this, even though they are the same company and use all the same parts in there alarm, viper doesnt offer it.




so either a clifford intelligaurd 750 or 850 or maybe the compustar.

I've got a Viper alarm with one of those pager systems. Its model 690XV, and I've had it for about a year. I can't say that its stopped car theft / break-in since I wouldn't know for sure, but it hasn't happened thus far. The pager also works within decent range... my friends like to ---- with me by tripping my alarm and making the pager go off. The only bad thing about it is the remote tends to take a bit of abuse if you attach it to your keys and you're clumsy with them. Prox. also might not work because the pager would constantly be going off.

Hey Will, I just wanted to tell you that I think either unit will be fine, but as cool as they are, I think you may want to reconsider the 2-way model. I have heard some stories about the remotes on these units failing and last week, one out of the two that I sold/installed in the last few months came back because the remote would only recieve, not transmit :-\ From you other post, it seems that your fiance' will be driving this car and we all know that women just tend to chuck things in their purses and it may cause the premature death of the remote. If you decide to get the 2-way system anyway, seriously consider buying the companion remote that works with the system and does not use the LCD screen In case you need a back-up remote.

My fiancee is dead set on a 2 way. ::) So, actually, I can save $100 and get a 2 way system that doesn't have the lcd screen but does have led indicators on the remote. Are you saying you'd recommend that one instead?

well the remote has to make sound for it to be of any advantage. I am assuming that it does make noise, you just didn't mention that it did either way.

Well yeah, you can buy one with a remote like this, an lcd screen:

Being a DEI dealer, I don't want to downtalk any of there product, they make great stuff, but if you do not handle this remote with the utmost of care, it appears that it is susceptable to a premature death :-\ I gave my customer one of the companion remotes that I had in the store to use temporarily, it has no LED's or beeping and he said he actually liked it better. But it really defeats the purpose of the two way altogether. So, if she is dead set on the 2way, go for the LED version I guess.
