i herd good things about viper and clifford. whats your guys take on them? any pro and cons that stand out?

Re:car alarms

Clifford is a better brand, I used to have both, both worked great, the viper one is a good bang for your buck if youre on a budget, they are both as sensetive as you want them to be, to the point where rain will set them off, both have great options, if you have the money get the clifford pager system, its pricey but worth it depending where you live.

I was looking at that alarm; does anyone know if it can/will roll up windows etc. when you arm it? I know some Alpine alarms have this as an option.

Does anybody know where I can find out how to install an alarm? I've heard that most kits don't come with instructions as they are meant for a professional to install them. I've installed dozens of car stereos and am good with wiring. What all needs to be tapped into?

I'd like to know also. And spoiledbratracing, the Alpine alarms require separate modules (bought separately) to roll up windows etc. Does that alarm come with the modules, or do you have to buy them separately?

You cannot use the lock/unlock option without first installing power door locks.

Re:car alarms

Just to clarify, Clifford and Viper are sold by the same company...Directed Electronics Inc (D.E.I.) and are basically the same units with the exception of the finish on the transmitters, the l.e.d. and other minor things. The wiring harnesss from unit to unit (current production models of course) are the same, as long as your are talking about a Viper and Clifford unit that offer the same features. Window control is available as an option for almost ANY alarm, it just requires a window control moduled and an output from the alarm to control it. You usually use the "ground when armed" output of an alarm to roll windows up and an "auxilliary" output to roll them down. Most units will control most of the factory door lock types on the market, however there are some that will require extra parts (relays) to control a "five-wire" or "reversing polarity" type of set-up which is what you would be dealing with if you install your own door lock actuators. I am a Clifford dealer and I have been installing alarms for a little over ten years. Oh yea, there are instructions with the DEI units, but you would need a list of the wire colors to tap into for your individual car. I can help anybody out with that if need be. PM me if you have any questions.

HMTguy 12-15-2004 09:00 PM

Re:car alarms

Thanks man, that clears some ---- up. So the instructions will be something like "connect this wire to +12V switched, this one to starter relay, etc." and you just need to figure out what your own wire color codes are?

Re:car alarms

I was pretty much gonna say everything that ZC4ME wrote, but I want to add that if you have never installed an alarm before, it can be very daunting. I can also get anybody the specific wiring info for their car if they email me for it. Definitly spend the extra few bucks and take it to a place that is well known for good installs. If you are local to southeastern PA, I would be more then happy to install any alarm or keyless or remote start system for $20 and a 6 pack. Also, the Clifford RS3 is a very good choice.

Re:car alarms

I have the viper that has the blue two way remote, four buttons, picture of a car. It is garbage the remote has broke 3 times at 100 bucks a pop. That one is garbage but I used to install dei alarms and I had one that I uninstalled and installed 3 of my cars and it was perfect.

so dei=good dei two way thing=bad

And installing an alrm w/remote start isn't easy.

That is just fucked up.

One other thing to remember is that the guarentee that comes with the alarm for theft and stuff will not be honored unless you have it installed by an authorized shop. The same goes for car insurance discounts.

Not that it matters to many ppl, but it is something to think about.

dude its not cause of your wide band! the way to get rid of that is very simple! your alarm is in valet mode! to get it out of that mode you open the drivers door and press the arm button then the disarm button and them the lock button again!

so

open door
lock
unlock
lock

and it will go away! try it

that wiring on the alarm is not tied into anything diagnostically on the actual car!

slowpoke 12-16-2004 08:27 AM

Re:car alarms

its true that clifford and viper are owned by the same company, but the clifford is better than the viper line,

thank of it like
honda= viper
acura= clifford

the clifford is a little bit more high end with better features, i would goto an actual stereo shop to get a clifford though, dont let best buy do it,

spoiledbratracing 12-16-2004 08:56 AM

Re:car alarms

dud they are exactly the same! exactly not if and or but's about it! VIPER HAS BEEN AROUND BEFORE ROACHES

slowpoke 12-16-2004 09:41 AM

Re:car alarms

oh really, find me a viper alarm that has the same exact features as the inteligaurd 750 or the avantgaurd g5.

there is a reason that clifford products are almost double what viper products cost, clifford has way more features.

spoiledbratracing 12-16-2004 09:50 AM

Re:car alarms

dude i install alarms and they are the same! exactly viper own them both i mean dei!

they are exact!

they are the same price for dealers to buy thats the sales pitch we put out thats to get more money!

the only reason that viper, hornet, sidewinder, clifford are not just all viper is for teritorial reasons!

if i have a shop on the same street as you and you sell viper they will give me hornet, or sidewinder, maybe clifford!

as for the intelliguard its the same as the 791xv

viper makes a piece thats called the 700xv and its made of kevlaar and black wiring that is supposed to be the best for security it has a collar around the harness so you cant disconnect it easy! also the siren has stealth wiring! they didnt even get hornet and clifford the same model! not even anything close...

dei makes all the internals for all of these alarms and dei was the company that makes viper.... viper is the mother company

Re:car alarms

what comparable viper alarm has something like the blackjaxx cuz thats the main reason im buying a clifford, what model numbers are you referring to because vipers website list a

800esp
700esp
850vx

spoiledbratracing 12-16-2004 02:59 PM

Re:car alarms

read dude its the 700esp and im dumb??? hmmmmm look up stupid

slowpoke 12-16-2004 03:29 PM

Re:car alarms

i looked up what the 700esp comes with and i dont see anything about a keypad starter kill system like the blackjaxx,

its aparent to me that you dont even know what a a blackjaxx system is. you said you sold viper products, and im intrested in a viper alarms since there alot cheaper, so you should know what features viper alarms come with!

clifford and viper might be owned by the same people, and there products might be made out of the same parts, but they offer 2 diffrent products and diffrent options!

fork 12-16-2004 03:54 PM

Re:car alarms

alarms with all black wires rock. But no alarm works when it only takes the theif about 5 seconds to cut the battery cable.

keep joggin the buttons back and forth go like 5 times it just takes time! do it a few times without stopping!

or if you have a valet switch you can turn the ignition on then back off and then hit the button once!

is your siren working?
