Re: Car Alarm...

well you get what you pay for, that being said... directed makes quite a few nice alarms, i think they make cliffords... don't get something cheap unless you only want like a keyless entry. don't get one with everything built it. on my alarm i have several things i can add on. you'll also want to get a battery backup siren so if they cut the line it will go off. i suggest when you get an alarm and it has remote unlock, unhook your key locks so you can't get in without your remote. get glass sensors, sometimes the shock sensors are nice, but if somebody comes buy with a set of nice subs your going to get a false alarm. so if you do get one, i'd set it down sort of low, so it won't go off if you tap your car, but if you really start shaking it it will go off. also don't post anywhere how or where you ran your wires, it sounds kind of stupid but i've saw a lot of people make "write ups" for their alarms, and finally make a lot of switchs if you want more security. if your good at soldering wires, you might want to look into a removable ecu.

This is very true for the most part, there are just some alarms that are just flaming pieces of garbage no matter how well they are installed. I put an alarm in my 90 AWD Talon and when I sold it, the kid came up to me one day and asked me where the hell the alarm was, he wanted to add some things to it. He said he never would have figured it out that it was behind the passenger side rear interior panel of the car and he could not find any of the wires to even point him in the right direction. Those alarms that fall to the floor when you take the underdash panel off will not help for very long. :-\
