canadian stylez boostin

I knew I’d be back on HMT some day ;)

Another installment of Canadian Stylez,

Courtesy of Spenser(Bring me back)

This is a turbo install on DJFOBS car, no ghetto-ness here. 8)

So it’s about noon on Friday, I pull up in my Ferrari and unload my tools.

http://www3.telus.net/molnarb/HOTU%20011.jpg

I check out Djfobs car, and too my surprise, it seams to have a lot of the work done already.

http://www3.telus.net/molnarb/HOTU%20027.jpg

This car needs some go to back up the intercooler, I’m pretty sure he was cruising with a Bov too, haha.

So, we start, The stock manifold comes off, oil pan, front bumper, things like that….

Is that a turbo manifold?

http://www3.telus.net/molnarb/HOTU%20025.jpg

It is, it is, It’s a turbo manifold….. what kind of turbo is that?

http://www3.telus.net/molnarb/HOTU%20001.jpg
A Latino heat turbo of course.

http://www3.telus.net/molnarb/huto33.JPG

Well actually it’s a WRX turbo, should be a good size for this car.
Despite the odd collector, it is a very nice manifold, with huge SS runners.

This is an intercooler made from a larger core; this is one of 3, very nice if you ask me…

http://www3.telus.net/molnarb/huto31.JPG

To make things go more smoothly today, he had an extra taped and welded already, so we put that baby on there…

http://www3.telus.net/molnarb/HOTU30.JPG

Injectors are next, we had to dremel out the seals, it’s really hard when you don’t have a spare manifold, to place them in, took us pretty long, with the DSM 450s you also have to cut the little tap out from the inside with a razor blade.

http://www3.telus.net/molnarb/HOTU%20005.jpg

Sexy blue.

http://www3.telus.net/molnarb/HOTU%20016.jpg

since these injectors are peak and hold, we had to wire in a resistor box, was fairly easy, I burned my hand twice on the stupid soldering iron, this is the cut rate install for now,

http://www3.telus.net/molnarb/HOTU%20014.jpg

To the side you can see the oil lines, He has a hose coming from the back of the block, to a brass T, to a valve, to another T for his oil pressure gauge, then to a nice braided line to the turbo.

http://www3.telus.net/molnarb/HOTU%20003.jpg

I will be selling a oil line kit in the near future, for a price cheaper then you can imagine.

This is his vacuum manifold, very slick as well, I will be selling these also for very cheap

DSM BOV, These don’t sound bad at all, I really like them.

http://www3.telus.net/molnarb/HOTU%20002.jpg
http://www3.telus.net/molnarb/HOTU%20020.jpg

This is the 02 sensor, it’s from a 99 Crown Victoria or something, I soldered the civic connector on to it, cause the old 02 sensor is stuck in the ------- stock manifold, I did a nice job eh?

http://www3.telus.net/molnarb/HOTU%20012.jpg

Chipped Ecu of course, is there any other way???

http://www3.telus.net/molnarb/HOTU%20017.jpg

Gotta keep on eye on this baby, these things saved its life

http://www3.telus.net/molnarb/HOTU%20018.jpg

Now its time for the DP, its 2.5, very sexy DP, only problem is the O2 bung was welded in the wrong place, and the O2 sensor was hitting the fan… so I bust out the old ARC, and weld up a second one(the lower one).

http://www3.telus.net/molnarb/HOTU%20010.jpg

we Install the bad boy…, I cut apart a old o2 sensor and weld it shut(there is nothing inside once you remove the porcelain or what ever.) those welds are pro, eat your heart out beau.

http://www3.telus.net/molnarb/HOTU%20022.jpg

Get the air filter on, and the EGT hooked up (cut rate of course)

We decided to use hose clamps for now, just to make sure everything works… and The old Arc welder was being a bitch anyway.

http://www3.telus.net/molnarb/HOTU%20024.jpg

So its about 9 30 at night, everything is hooked up, looks good to go, put some oil in it, and fire it up, The oil pressure gauge is reading 0, but the oil pressure light doesn’t come on, we turn it off, and pull the line fro the turbo, turn it on again and there is no oil pressure….

WTF!!!

We decide it’s the oil pan we put on, it was shallower, our theory was the oil pickup was touching the bottom of the pan, and the oil pump couldn’t get any oil (like when you take vacuum nozzle and push it against the floor)

So we call it a night and pack up. Damn oil pan

http://www3.telus.net/molnarb/HOTU%20013.jpg

In the morning, he takes the stock oil pan to get it tapped and welded, and he removes the Down pipe, I finally show up in my Ferrari, at about 2.

http://www3.telus.net/molnarb/HOTU%20007.jpg

After we bolted everything back up, hooked up the exhaust, re routed some of the wires, it was time to start this bitch up, it started up first crank, everything was normal, it was making boat loads of oil pressure and idling awesome.

The car is running Uberdata, on EGmikes tune, its set up for a larger turbo so it’s most likely a little on the rich side; it seams to work fine, very very very smooth in and out of boost transitions and good power. The WG is set at 6.5, and the car pulls pretty strong I would say, he’s gona turn up the boost once he gets it street tuned, (he also needs a Timing belt, ha-ha) so for now it seams to be fine. Boost spools up around 3 grand.
