I know what you mean, I've been trying to help a guy here do a HMT, well he says his mechanic said it was ok and won't blow up. Running a small turbo, with no wastegate, he doesn't have the vacuum hose connected and no fuel management. I told him not to do it, but he keeps saying his mechanic said it was ok. I'm like fine.
The point is sometimes you try to help people and they don't listen to your advice. Same thing here, I hope you know enough to get your setup in correctly and you don't blow it up.

Do you mean no wastegate whatsoever? or its just not hooked up?

My first HMT took about a week. Second one took morning till night and about 20 trips to lowes and autozone. Well, didnt technically FINISH it. It was non-intercooled and open down-pipe

Keep in mind it is against EPA law to remove a catalytic converter. Its a hefty fine and can result in impounding your car if they found out you've done it. And when you go turbo (if you do) and run rich you can expect to be shooting a couple sparks out that exhaust. This will draw attention immediately to the police.

And don't believe anyone elses bullshit that its not illegal, go look it up on the EPA's website. It is a FEDERAL LAW (that means that entire country) to have a catalytic converter installed on your car.

However, that doesn't mean you can't hollow it out.
