can i use a oil press gauge as a fuel press gauge?

hello everybody.
i got a AUTOMETER ultra lite electric oil pressure gauge with 100 psi sender. and i was thinking about using it as a fuel pressure gauge.

is it possible? anyone here ever did it?

can i destroy the sender like this?

thanks

maybe if the gauge was mechanical?

electric + fuel = smart ::)

hahaha only imn pakistan...

why need afuel press guage. put the stock regulator on there and rip. no need to be a ricer and run a fpr...

Can you use a fuel pressure gauge for an inline oil feed gauge??

Fuel Pressure Gauges are cheap. Why try something thats going to have the possibility of screwing up.

If it was electrically I think it might work. If it was mech. it may be a diaphram pressure gauge and the gasoline may eat away at the diaphram. Seen that happen before.

What happens if you want to run 450cc dsm injectors at 18psi of boost and about 320whp? 42psi aint going to cut it, bump it up to 50 or so and you good to go. Can't do that with a stock FPR.

maybe if you beat it in a little with a hammer lol

Can't do it with those POS B&M fpr's either. :P Best thing I ever did was take that damn thing off.

there is really only one true way to find out?

Re: can i use a oil press gauge as a fuel press gauge?

yes you can

dont listen to these honda-tech members; do it and it'll be great. All the sender is is a pressure transducer; if it'll stand up to oil it'll stand up to gas; its not like its on fire inside the transducer.

if u need 18 pounds of boost to make 320whp u need a bigger turbo.

my buddy has 332whp on a ls engine with 18psi of boost

that's still not as ghetto as I've thought of going before.... When i was looking at how expensive boost guages are i almost went with a low psi air compressor guage... :6

Re: can i use a oil press gauge as a fuel press gauge?

electric oil pressure gauge works fine as a fuel pressure gauge, and it's a lot cheaper too. most of them have 1/8 npt fitting on the sending unit also, which is the same as most fuel pressure gauges, so it works out great. btw, hotrex is a fag.

Re: can i use a oil press gauge as a fuel press gauge?

and you stupid for your suggestion..........nice way to burn a car to the ground!!!!!!!!!!!

the sending unit while they might LOOK the same, use different materials for the pressure diaphram. Gasoline will eat the oil pressure gauge daiphram, causing a leak and fire.

hell i've used air pressure gauge as a fpr gauge, the gauge fell apart from engine vibration but it never leaked
not saying its a good idea, but nothing bad came from it

Re: can i use a oil press gauge as a fuel press gauge?

anyone in the Cincy area know Tim @ BASZ.......we and NOT good friends to say the least.............

But he burnt up a 6g Civic when he went cheap and used a oil pressure sender for fuel. Autometer used to offer a short sweep fuel pressure setup using the correct sender, but even it was discontinued because of failures.

Look into Nordskog or Cyberdyne......

would make sense to me, since both are petroleum based.

Mista Bone says otherwise, and for somereason I think he's trustworthy, so i'd be carefull if you decide to attempt it.

Re: can i use a oil press gauge as a fuel press gauge?

This thread is the biggest pile of misinformation!
If the transducer is a membrane type, DO NOT PUT GASOLINE IN IT. It is definitely not designed for gasoline and it may start leaking and burn up your car.
If the transducer is a semiconductor type, it's probably ok.
I bought a couple of Honeywell 0-100psi pressure senders off ebay, seller name pyrojoseph. It outputs 0-5V and is rated for any automotive liquid.

Re: can i use a oil press gauge as a fuel press gauge?

ok thanks for the replays everyone...... i guess mistabone was right.... the car caught on fire in seconds....

J/K. :1

i will use it for what it designed for. oil press...

is it ok to "tee" off the sender from the turbo feed line.? (on the turbo side)?? will i get the ENGINE oil press?
