Can I run a Knock sensor on my D16Z6 to check for Knock while tuning????

I know the automatic Z6's come with knocksensors in the block already, but the manual's don't. so i was wondering now that I'm boosted with my manual Z6, can i use an auto's knock sensor in the block to check for detonation while tuning the timing? Along with this though, since it's a 5spd with a 5spd ecu that has no knock sensor in it, could i just some how wire the knock sensor to a small light bulb(ie,headlight or LED bulb) and have my tuning partner watch for knock??? I know it may sound ghetto but, i was thinking it would be a good way to check for un-noticable yet harmful knock 8) anyone with any wiring skills or past experience with this sort of idea would be extremely helpful, thanks alot bro's

the only auto z6 i've seen has no knock sensor; d's never got knock sensors until the obd2 generation.

and no you can't just wire up some light; a knock sensor is a microphone and you need a DSP to determine what noise is knock and what is not.

Don't VAFC/SAFCs have some type of knock sensor feature? i'm wondering you took one and hooked it up directly if it would work.

the safc 2 has it; i tuned a safc2 on a 1g dsm with a 2g mas and 560cc injectors; never had a chance to make it knock so i can't tell you how well that works.
i was thinking about that too; using an safc2 to detect knock. would be interesting to look into it.

However I run a J&S Safeguard; it does its thing; a very handy little piece of technology. Go buy one of those if you're worried about knock

they work. we had the safc2 on my bros car before he gave it to me for free. the knock function is pretty good. but thats it. its too sensitive i think and picks up far too much noise. the best bet is to run it a lil rich just incase, cus tining for knock, will be walking a fine line imho.

I've heard of people using some type of adapter to run a GM sensor, which is supposidly a lot less touchy.
