Same with my friends. We just climbed up and fixed it up. b/c it is a pain in the ass to get to...it probably won't get messed with unless they are out there for service already.

Then they put a blocker on your line. It just screws inline to your cable. Be a man and climb up there and remove it. Bring pliers or an adjustable wrench, it may be on pretty tight.

It also could be that your cable line is retarded. I can't remember how it goes exactly but the low chanels run on the stinger (copper inside the cable it self) and the upper channels are carried throughthat metal mesh looking clading that is right under the black sheathing. If some one bumped/jiggled/ or something to one of the connections it could be your problem. sometimes when the cableman makes a shitty cable it could take someone bumping it before you see the fucked up results.

i'm a cable installer for Comcast....it sounds like they put a modem only trap on your line.....it's a small thing(looks like a small fuel filter here) that is between the line and the tap....sounds like what had happened is that the guy that installed your modem was to lazy or forgot to put the trap on. I know here they go back and check the techs work. Then they noticed that the line didn;t have a trap so they added one. only way to fix that is to find your tap.....most likely up on the pole climb up there and pull it off....plug right into the tap and have your cable and modem service. They only really check the techs work once maybe twice to make sure that he fixed it . That's how it works here

the metal mesh don't really do ----....when you make the cables you strip the wire and pull that metal mesh back away from the conductor..the metal mesh doesn't come in contact with the tap at all....even one little part of the mesh going across the conductor can ---- ---- up.....if his modem is still working and his tv isn't there is a trap on it.......98% of the time that is it
