So the only route is to get cable. Unless, you cut off your cell phone then get a phone line and DSL(then that would be cheaper).

As far as pinging, I think they are only worried about you (or someone) who might use the connection to send DOS attacks to other computers (this was big on the news a few months back).

Sounds like earthlink allows gaming, download/upload, etc.. If you dont see any notice about MAX upload/download limit, then there isnt any.

So yeah.. CABLE 'nuff said.
ping based dos attacks dont exist. i know, ive tried. but you can make a server shut down by trying to log in a 1000+ times a seccond. lol. dont try it at home kids.

just get it and dont worry about it. the only thing youll have to watch out for is spam and ---- cusd now youll be online all the time, so get a good virus scanner like pcccillin and youll be straight.

Columbus has Wide Open West too... I use them (East Side) and haven't had any problems. Then again, I don't do a lot of gaming or downloading at home, so who knows. Another option I suppose. :P

Lets clear one thing up for the n00bz.

you often see services advertising 5mbps downstream!

5mbps = 5 megaBITS per second.
8 bits = 1 byte

so if they say it can download at up to 5mbps (5120kb/sec) they really mean a MAXIMUM of 640KB/sec (as seen in windows while downloading something).

KB = KiloBYTE
Kb = kiloBIT

Most all services advertise in kilo or mega BITS because the numbers are exagerated of real throughput.

DSL is lame in our area, ya its better for uploading things compared to Cable. But I swear to god my cable now is atleast 5 times faster than my old dsl was. Its like comparing a D15 NA to a Built GSR, no comparison
