Buying a Grand Cherokee *Fook Plz look*

I am going to need a new car for my DD being that my wife is due to give birth any day now, and my Civic doesn't have rear seats to put the baby. I want something new but could be a leftover. Hopefully the warranty will prevent me from modifying it. >:D
I was thinking of a Ford Explorer or a Chevy SUV. My commute is short and maybe high gas prices will allow dealers to offer incentives on their stock.
I know nothing about buying a new car I usually pay sticker price. :1 Im sure leftover models would be a good option. Any ideas?

Older crv. With a 5 speed Or a chevy trailblazer. I know alot of people will say 4runner, But I cant stand them.

My wife dosent care for them, so we ended up with a 2007 TrailBlazer LT. I will say Its a nice ride. 4wd, heated leather seats, dual climate control (driver has one, pass has one, and rear pass has one) 4.2 inline 6 290ish hp, and 270ish tq. This is the 2nd chevy Ive owned. I hated my first one, But this one feal realy solid. Full frame. I cant wate for it to snow so I can check out the 4wd. Oh, and gm gave it to me with the gmac finc. at 3.9% 5 year and 100k powertrain, and a 39k bumper to bumper. I paid about 17k for it used, Only had about 20k when we got it. As for mpg, its ok for a bigger suv. 15 in town and 22 on the freeway. 88dx work for chevy and he even says that for a chevy they are a pretty good overall car besides the front diff leaks that they will eventual have. Overall its been a great car. One I would feal safe for my kid to ride in.

I really wanted a new 09 Camry SE, but I doubt I can get any deal on it . Chevy now has the employee pricing so I'm gonna go to the stealership and see what's good.
I know some people are really good at haggling and researchin buying cars like asking for the invoice and getting a really low price so I'm gonna keep my civic as a hobby car and look into a dumbestic. :l

look into the suzuki SX4 crossover for something that you or the misses can drive
looks a bit goofy but is better on gas and the wallet then most domestic pieces of ----
also comes with AWD option so winter drifting is an option

Re: Buying a new car advice

The whole reason I went with the trailblazer is it was a great price, 100k powertrain warnt, and the drivetrain is rock solid. What ever you do do not buy a ford escape!!!!! I had one and they are transmission nightmare!! mpg sucked ass! 18 on the freeway, and 12-14 in town.

Im glad you said that b/c I like the size of the Escape. I wasnt aware of the trans problems. Im gonna see about leasing. Ive heard about no $ down $200 mo. leases.
The worst part is I will be financing, I think with cash you can go pretty low.

I <3 imports but IDK about Suzuki. I wonder if their cars are decent. There is a dealer near me and they have a model in the window that looks like my wife's Scion Xa. I would wanna get something bigger like a Grand Vitara, but Im not sure if they are as desperate as Chevy is nowadays. Could be an option.
I wonder if they lease used cars, something with low miles preferably a Jap car.

THe escapes, Mercury Mariner, Mazda Tribute, landrover lr2. All have the same basic drivetrain, and the shitty ass CD4E transmission. I dropped the trans in my garage, and it took me about 20hours just to get it out. Then I had to pull the motor just to pull one broken exhaust manifold bolt. Ford quoted me $4500 to replace the trans. :o

I know a guy that has a 07 suzuki vitara and its a ------- piece! That thing rattles and squeeks like a 15 year old cavalier.

The older GC's had some problems, mostly with the Limited's and the A/C systems were junk in them. The Laredos were decent, but most didn't come with the options the Limited's had. The 4.7 is an awesome motor IMO, but the 4.0 is a ------- tank and has proven itself. I would look for a 4.0 Laredo with the selec-trac transfer case and the locker axles(not sure if they were quadradrive or vari-lock?). Where is Fook? He knows all about them.

It has always received good reviews. Even with shitty maintenance they run forever. Not the most powerful motor, but they take the abuse.

Joe when I work in sears, it was comond to see them with over 250,000 miles on them runing MINT. The only thing that is bad about them is they drink gas like its nothing :-\

My old GC with the 4.7 V8 got about ~13mpg city and around 18mpg highway. Off-road it got total ---- for mileage, but I beat that mother fucker and 4lo kicks ass. Smoothest vehicle I've ever driven off-road though. Just point it and stab the gas and it goes. I can honestly say I was impressed with the off-road capabilities of it in stock form.

Stay away from the dual zone climate control and expect to hear a "whine" from the front axle. Make sure the A/C blows cold on cold, hot on hot and it blows air where it says it's supposed to. If not, it's an 8 hour job that requires the ENTIRE dash to come out along with the HVAC unit, plus draining the 134a out of the system and disconnecting the heater core. :S Or you can buy the "heaterTreater" off Egay and cheat. You might not have a problem with a ~2004 model though.

Joe, get Joe E to hook you up with a good rep at his dealership.

I got my 04 Pilot with an extended warranty (6 years, 100k miles) for a pretty good price almost a year and a half ago...you could get a STEAL on one right now and still have a decent warranty.

Look at one of the newer CRV's if you want better gas mileage.

Stay away from GM...who knows what will happen when they get merged or bought out by the US Gov't

Let me know Joe.

Im a big fan of pilots, as long as you have a warranty to go with it.

Customer pay labor sucks ass.

My dad put 220,000 miles on his 00 grand cherokee, still running perfect he traded it in on an 03 of a different color. Drives it everyday and the damn thing just wont break. Both are the inline 6 btw.
