I bought my car with a Salvage title from a junkyard.

All did was kept the bill of sale and scheduled an inspection date with the state patrol and they cleared my title.

all they do is check the vin #, milage and things wrong with the car, damage etc.

If you have replaced anything on the car before you go to the inspection. make sure you have the recite for it.

then all they do is input all the info onto record. they ask you bout da car, options it has and model etc..

This is in WA though, I dont know how it works in other States.

I know cause i did the same thing in pa and i've been calling the last owner in florida every week for the past 3-5 months trying to get a new title. DON'T DO IT
you obviously dont know what the ---- your talking about, there is this thing that is called a bonded title. You get the vehicle inspected, then the mvd gives you the last registered owneds name and address, you send out a certified letter and if they dont return it within a certain time frame the car is yours. I have done it before

Thats the way VT is also. I would def. look into this possibility.

Why do we see the same topics over and over? And why do people ask questions on a site where the chance is little to none that anyone will have a correct answer? You need to get your *** to the DMV, son, they can answer your questions.

Oh yeah, I may as well save you some time... I didn't really see one correct answer yet so here it goes. In a situation like yours, you need to :
- have the dmv do a NCIC check (see if it's stolen)
- have the dmv do a VIN inspection
- have them look up the last registered owner (if the title's from florida, you need to contact florida dmv to do this)
- send a letter, certified mail, to the last registered owner to explain what you're doing, and ask them for help (usually they won't respond, but all you need is a unopened certified letter proving you at least tried to contact the person)
- buy a surety bond (or lost title bond, same thing) from a licensed bond company. This usually costs $50.

Take all this stuff in to your dmv, and they'll give you a title. Bingo.

EDIT: rx7tostarion is the winner ding ding ding ding ding ding

Yeah, that's all fine and dandy FOR YOUR STATE. You forget that it depends on what state your in and what their rules are.

I guess we should all stop asking questions because nobody on this site has any answers.

I have a 91 STD hatch with no title, needs an engine, bumper fenders and hood. Anyone wants it!!!!

I was going to get it running to sell it, but the title problems just stopped that plan. I might just part it out.
