busted my timing belt :(

so im cruising in my neighborhood today, looking for girlies

and i deciced to punch it down the street, i go and step in it

and all i hear is pop.. and my turbo spooling to a stop.

and stop and turn the key, motor is spinning like a muthafuk.

pushed the car home, and my timing belt was in 4 pieces. turns

out it was dry rotted like a bitch and my lil rev limit

bouncing at the track the other day killed it.

i changed the belt and by the hand of GOD himself, no valves

were bent.

ok, ill shut up now

so i guess you did not do change your timing belt on time (60Kmiles?)

and i know, it is a bitch to push your car all the way back to your house.

so now you learned you should do mainence on time.

how do you know, your valves did not bent? special you kept on cranking it with the broken belt?

why don`t you do a compression check, to make sure it is REALLY ok.

:P ;D

i have the compression tester right here, but im too scared to check and know the truth. i rather sit here and lie to myslef, its sounds good, therefore it must be ok :)

Re:busted my timing belt :(

my motor is a j spec d15b and i know they dont come over from japan with more than lik 35K due to restrictions over there and ive only put about 10k max on it, im pretty sure i havent hit 60k yet, much less 90k, ---- was just dry rotted.

I don't understand this concept of they can only get their engines to 35k in JDM land..... As a mater a fact the only time I've ever heard this is whenever you talk about honda motors. Talk about a Toyota or Nissan engine and this hardly comes up. Anyone have any straight dirt evidence on this? *sorry to jack your thread :P*

it costs a fortune to own and drive a car in japan and unlike here they charge more tax for a car that is older so if you have a 12 year old car its like paying for a new suv here. so they trash it and get a new one, the car could be spotless and perfectly fine but it costs too much for anyone to own one. so sell the engine to the US or Europe and then trash the rest.

no sir spinx, k=1000, meaning 100,000 miles. i'm in the USA and the car was made by American Honda for that matter.

Re:busted my timing belt :(

yeah my haynes manual says to change the belt every 90k miles or every 72 months. I've always heard 60k though. :P

dry rotted.. sounds like it has been sitting out open in a field for a year or two.

I think you should be more fortunate that you didn't get any broken pistons versus bent valves.

Only sure way is to pull the head.

Good luck finding replacement valves.

Re:busted my timing belt :(

p28 valves (92 95 z6) should be the same as the po8 valves (92 95 d15b) i think

on my jdm d15b... that dam crank gear bolt will not come off... I've tried two different heavy duty impact wrenches... many different times. one day that timing belt is going to own me. along with the pumps who are probably older than I am.

I use a 1 inch impact with a reducing adapter to get the crank blots off. I have a 650ft pound snap on impact I use everyday and get rebuilt once a year and it wont touch most honda crank bolts ??? Try a big truck tire store just get them to loosin it a bit, so you can go strait home. Once they crack free you can turn them buy hand, there just tighter than ----.

HAAA HAAAAa Got one of those plastic composite impact guns off the Matco tool truck an it ripps honda bolts off with ease.$$$$$ on lots of tools.Anyway the reason for the japan motors is not that its expensive to maintain there cars its the salt an ---- they add to the roads...Called rust.they have to have there cars safety inspected to keep them on the roads.Just like our emmissions ----.5 years an the body looks like a east coast car. :o They deem these unsafe so they take them off the road. They have guys over there just like our wrecking yards that pay lil money for there car an dismantle it an ship all the ---- here an resell it.They dont replace the engine when a tuneup is needed......Just inspect the belt if any signs of cracking your on borrowed time especially when you spin em 8k an bounce them off the rev limiter.Ever look at a t belt wound up to 6 or 8 k an :o see what enertia does to it?I have scarrry.Ill stay with my timing chain motor.....later all
