Johnnys got it right for the most part. The port security is goverment control. But just like any other goverment related business in america, its ran off of a contract basis. The problem is no american companys even bid on the job. And the uae still has to get approval from the committee on Foreign investment in the U.S.. I doubt bush had anything to do with it or even knew about it until the A.P. brought it up.

I'm conflicted on the use though... The Bush Administration admits they fucked up by not briefing congress and there's a little... I don't want to say racism, but skepticism because it's a Middle Eastern Country. According the NPR news, the company will load and unload boats. That's it. They're not being given the keys to run the entire port. Customs still reviews shipping papers and logs. Everything is run through at least one radiation detector. If it picks up anything, it's run through a second. Coast Guard will still do security.
If anything, people are pissed that it's a certain country that has supported terrorism and laundered money for terrorist organizations. I'll have to look this up though because I don't know the full details and I forgot where I heard it.

Congress (a bipartisan effort I might add) wants an investigation into the sale and Bush said he would veto any legistlation. So he kept everyone in the dark (including himself), and if people ask questions or want to know details, he doesn't want to talk about it.

Lib or Con, Bush deserves some bashing on this one. If things are legit and the safety of the country won't be compromised, then the sale will go on.
