going with skunk2's cam and valve kits, block guard is on its way- should i piece a kit together and run turboedit?

what car is this going into? OBD0? OBD1? OBD2?

Bottomline, how good are you in the garage? Welding? If you suck in the garage and suck at welding, buy a kit or stick around and let hotrex slap you like a nooB and then learn some real turbo information.

I would piece mine together because it will be cheaper and at the end it will be a lot nicer because you wont have miscellanous sh!t that you dont need aka FMU.

It will take a bit to pick up info but just keep an eye out.

If you are planning on boosting a B16, might be wise to get ARP head studs and also a new headgasket. I recommend one of the thicker Cometic Headgasket... the 0.057" will drop you down to a C/R of 9.7:1 or so, which is better than the 10.2 that the regular b16 is at.

Upgrade your fuel pump etc.

Blockguard make sure you dont hammer that shiet in too hard... Once you get it in, make sure you align HONE it so it doesnt F up on you. Then put everything else in. Might as well upgrade some maintenance shiet on the engine, such as the timing belt, water pump, oil pump, etc...

seems like your debating which kit to buy. remember, you can pour thousands into headwork and components, and still grenade your bottom end, but if you build your bottom end(sleeves, rods and pistons) with absolutely no headwork you can still choke out some decent power with out scattering a block.

my vote is build it your self. That way when people ask you about it you can tell them since you had to know every single piece to make it work.

I love when guys say, "yeah its turboed... i don't know, some shop did it... i dont know man, whats a dyno? the shop guys said when they took it out it pulled pretty nice, i mean it is fast."

what not cool about your love for the "influx" of lazy noobs is that im looking more for a basis to start building this block- first- my final goal is to have a REX that no sr20det is gonna look at much less want some.
being that i want boost, i looked for info on what it takes to do and then i spent the last 2 years learning how to desgin, test, and install turbos- i read that very book and i loved it as much as everyone i've let barrow it. its not bias .
now back to whats at hand- i'm looking into the full set -up. c/r, final whp , a/f managment and my question is- whats better to buy and why?
rev hard turbo kit-
-manifold made for my swap
-charge pipes and IC included
-all oil lines and nipples inc.
-4-8 hours to install
(with oil pan ready)
-fuel uprades included (except injectors)
piece together my own-
-praying that the manifold from ebay or the one i buy from soneone fits my chassis
-Very long parts list with lots of time to find everything i would need.

all in all i'm looking for a good formula to calibrate and start a good base.
more questions consist of:
if i change my c/r will i need to do any ecu work??
there for directed at the electronics dept.
can i run full boost at 8000 rpm? and ride around in the red like usual?-i.e relibility? what hp is reliable with a well built bottom end? and how much can i expect to push out of a golden eagle rod kit and 9:7.1 on 8-12 psi?
its hard to not seem like a noobie bro, but i was looking for feed back from people who have something good to say about the kits they bought or how long it took them to put it together and how worth while it really is.... in other words-
take your own advice and dont post!

i built my own motor.b16,eagle rods,srp pistons 9-2 comp,arp headstuds,blockguard,full valvetrain(everything),obd1 convesion,p28 w/uberdata,w/450cc,turbonetics cast manni and t3/4 turbo with tial 38mm wastegate,2.5'' d/p and catback,jrc fmic,hks bov and as of today new oem gsr oil pump and water pump.all this i have done in 1-1/2 years. if i had the money i could have done this quicker.saving takes time and the parts will always be there. :P

id go with the "put threads like this in the forced induction forum" setup.. that'd be your best bet.. the "kick urself in the nuts" setup works good too though :P
