Yah, I already knew all that. Not that it's a whole lot, but good job on the hate, Frank.

and isn't the 13b the same in the FC and the FD? The RX8 motor is the 'new one' ...the renisis or whatever its called? -and you guys also have the 12a I believe.

And if you do a little research on the rotary, they were very very well engineered motors, can typically last hundreds of thousands of miles if maintained (like any other motor) and I didnt know this but the corvette accually experimented with a rotary motor at one time You do also know the rotary was used in airplanes....right?

The motors are not the same. 13B's had atleast 3 different variations in the US. the first in production to my knowledge was in the very rare 1st gen GSL-SEs. Fuel injected only. not carb on this one. Very good car to steal some injectors from, i think high imp., and i know 680cc. The intake ports on this motor are differnt from the later models. I'm pretty sure they are what the Puerto Rican Rotary Gods i know Tall Ports. These feature 4 intake port design They are literally much taller than all the rest of the motors. This is highly desired for the fact that the port timing can be greatly increased. This to a rotary, is much like increasing Duration on a cam. The second gens had somewhat of the second generation. There were atleast 4 different variations from 86-91. The first N/A's were, like JD said, 6 ports, and basicly garbage. They stayed in production until 88. The first year of the turbo II's brought a newer 4 port design into the mix. These had less compression than any other 13b's produced at all by mazda to my understanding and are valued due to their design being beneficial when high boost is in the mix of things. these also lost production in 88. 89 brought the facelift of the second gen and slightly differently designed body's and motors. Basicly turbo and non turbo's featured different intakes and bumped up compression. The third gen twin turbo's then were next in line in 93. They were another new design featuring different port spacing. They also differ in compression from the rest of the 13B family. More specifics are easily obtained on RX7club.com. Correct me if im wrong on the above.

That car- jeezus! i thought i was doin something putting together my 62-1 Turbo II... WOW. good luck with that daily driver as everyone said. That exhaust housing looks like it would be a great stop and go driver...

interesting information indeed.
As mentioned (and if I didnt mention it, i meant to) i'm learning as much as I can about rotarys.
Im really beginning to love them, love the design, love how they are built, just pretty dam sweet all around motor. They can be soo simple if you get rid of all of the retarded ---- around them I have read.

Step one with a Rotary is ditch all emisions equipment, reliabiltiy mods as Mazda is low buget and not a Honda so some things were lacking/poorly designed, then spend some big dollars on a Haltech,Motec etc etc management. The nice part is its a very simple design and really not much to it.The RX7 has always had a fantastic chassis and especially the FD 93+ is a killer on the road course.50/50 weight distribution, good suspension and relitivaly light over all weight all add up to a great sports car.Neglecting maintenance is a no no and must be followed religously.
