Breaking 2nd gear from a roll...

I didn't think it was possible. I figured even shitty DSM trannies were strong enough to handle power and usually broke due to hard shifting, but apparently not. Turned the boost up to 29psi, rolled on from low in 2nd gear, shifted normally (i.e. lightly) into third, nothing out of the ordinary. Came to a stop and tranny is knocking very loud. Tranny shifts fine, 2nd is a little notcher than normal and doesn't quite feel right, but doesn't grind. It does however vibrate very bad and makes a howling noise sort of like a dog box, but not that high pitched.

Any thoughts or opinions? I can't see breaking a gear in a relatively strong tranny and a <450hp car from a roll on.

haha, speaking of dsm's, theres this awd talon down the street that he claims hes running 21 psi on the stock turbo. as far as i know he said he has done no engine mods and just up'd the boost without no tune. i wonder if my slow ass hatch when boosted could knock him out.......any thoughts?

i cranked the boost on my conquest to 18psi with everything stock...

hell, i can bolt on a 16g, turn the boost to 15-18psi, without touching the fuel system or anything.

I had my 16g on 18psi with stock injectors. Car wasn't very fast, like ~260 wheel. You'll probably take him.

Better luck me ------- John in the ass than EVER buying a POS DSM made in ILL.

PS I don't swing that way either.

The weakest part in the DSM tranny is the center differential. I've spent almost 2000 dollars so far on rebuilding my DSM transmission...

Sounds like some bad bearings to me. It wont be long before they asplode and sent shrapnel everywhere in turn seizing all gears. But i dont know much about DSM trannies. I do know they do like to blow diffs and create tranny case ventilation.

So what's the vote, keep limping it to work or just stay home?

Yea keep driving. Who knows it could stay that way forever...

I had lost first gear leaving a dyno tuning session one time. It would keep popping out of first. Drove it on the pike all night, had problems with reversing into parking spots. Next day i lost all gears, finally got it in 2nd and drive it all the way home in a single gear. Good times.

Maybe something was worn out to begin with and just needed some encouragement to break... Same exact story with my tranny shifting from 2nd to 3rd gently and my worn diff blew up
