bought turbo streetbike *PICS*
1982 Yamaha Seca 650 Turbo
bought the bike for $250. Had sat for a long time. So far ive spent: $20 front calibers off ebay $60 front brake pads $60 clutch and throttle cable $10 new taillights when i got it, the guy thought the throttle cable was seized, but it turns out it was one of the throttle shafts on one of the carbs. I messed around with it and got all the shafts working correctly again, and also 3 out of 4 of the needle valves were stuck closed, got those working again also. Lots of the parts are discontinued for this bike, and all the others have to be ordered fast and the furious style from japan. All the exhaust was rusted out, i broke both the mufflers off. one muffler is for exhaust exahust, and the other is for gated exhaust out of the wastegate, so now im going to have just a bend and about 3" of pipe for the exhaust and the wastegate is just going to dump lol :) there was a ton of ugly nasty rusted peices of exhaust pipe all in the turbo, so i got out the hose and set her for super narrow spray and blasted that ---- out of there, it spins like a ------- top and has no play at all. at first the turbo looked like a huge grimey blob of ----, but once i took off the air inlet tube it looked like a gem inside the compressor! the funny thing is this turbo is so small with the vacuum line off the wastegate actuator it can only make 14psi. the stock hp output is 97hp at the crank, and at 14psi i saw a dyno that said 87 wheel hp. pretty good for a 80s bike! This is one of the badest bikes from the 80s. i rode my buddies suzuki gs550 a couple days ago, first time ive ridden in about 3 years, can't wait to get my bike running and driving! still needs new tires, and battery for sure. might need other things along the way. the good thing is that all the plastics are in great shape and it doesnt look like the bike had be dropped before.
