body work help

sup
i'm looking to do some of my own bodywork like fix my rust, shave side moldings, shave antenna rear wiper and rear windshield squirter.
I am alright with a welder so i'm just going to do the welding myself, but i need to know how thick of metal do i use? i read that you have to tac the thing a million times because of heat and what not, is this what you guys do?

ah and i was wondering, i was thinking about tryin to just put aluminum tape on the underside of the rear wiper hole and then put bondo over it? should i not waste my time with that and just do it right with a piece of metal?

any tips would be appreciated, thanks

bondo is ok. just dont try to fill huge gaps. try to get as much metal in as possible and welded sand it down if you have any gaps use bondo. it wont hurt anything

i shaved my moldings on my doors and filled my truck lid in, It takes soooooo long to tack it all up, but it's the only way to do it. I tacked it, then cooled it off with a wet rag. I actually warped my doors alittle, but bondo fixed that. Over all it took over 40 hrs to save them. Bondo is not bad at all, just don't make it oo thick.i don't remember what gauge I used, maybe like 18 or 20 gauge...maybe. as for the alluminum tape, don't waste your time, just cut out a little metal and do it that way, weld it in. http://images.cardomain.com/member_i...84_27_full.jpg

IF at all possable use the fiberglass resin with the fiberglass weave mat. Thats the best you can use for a body filler. It doesn't shrink and blends real well. As far as shaving things just weld it in.
