Blu Ray Audio/Video Obsessor's

Set up the new 7.1 channel setup.
Looking for blu-ray movies that are encoded in 7.1 channel. Anyone know of any?

Most lionsgate ----. A lot of the new stuff.

I'm at 2.5tb of movies. A lot of them bluray/hddvd rips. Too lazy to be searching/flipping/changing discs all the time.

Wonder when 9.1 is coming out :1

9.1 would be retarded.
So you don't know any movies off the top of your head that are 7.1 ? how do you play the ones you have off your tv, do you use media center or something?

My laptop has hdmi out, i wonder if it can do surround etc, even though it just has a normal dvd player on it.

Seeing as normal DVD players typically output 5.1 audio I don't see a problem. HDMI can carry multi-channel audio no problem.

I personally don't notice any difference between 5.1 and 7.1

What movie did you watch? With my reciever i can take a 5.1 source (my blu ray player) and use THX Cinema 2 mode or PLIIx or something like that and it remixes it from 5.1 to 7.1. Of course it is not as good as an actual movie that was encoded 7.1 at the studio...

Why did I mention 9.1? Because:

7.1 is also retarded.

There's this thing called marketing, where they add more and more (because more is obviously better right?) so people continue upgrading.

I guarantee there will be more audio channels added in the future, just so people go buy it.

Lionsgate movies is what I said, look up Lionsgate and see what they've released. The saw movies for example are lionsgate.

There are a variety of options like standalone media centers, game consoles, or HTPCs. I'll be going the HTPC route since it costs about the same and can do a shitload more.

I know that 7.1 will not add much to my experience, but the LXi's that I will replace the monitor 60's with will. I think I will buy some LXi's move the monitor 60's to surround, and the monitor 50's to surround back.

The only reason we bought a new receiver was because our old one from 2001 obviously didn't have hdmi in or out, and we picked up a 7.1 onkyo sr706 for a good deal. We didn't buy it, already having something that worked great, and just wanted 7.1 . It just happened to have it, so i wanted to try and use it.

I wasn't asking because i wanted to set one up, i was just asking what YOU were using. Quit trying to school the big picture, just wanted to see what you were running is all..

I use Vista Media Center (uses Windows Media Player) with FFDShow decoding most formats and MPC Video Decoder for x264 stuff.

I don't have a bluray drive but I hear Arcsoft Total Media Theater is the best software for bluray playback and media center integration.

I didn't ask why YOU bought one, I just said they keep hyping up more and more speakers even though it's nearly pointless. I wasn't talking trash about you, don't get defensive, merely was pointing out that it's retarded they keep adding more and more channels. If I was shopping for a home theater system (my 5.1 works fine), then I would probably get 7.1 just because it's available for relatively the same price, but I wouldn't upgrade just because companies decided to throw out 2 more speakers for me to wire up.

I'm not trying to school the big picture because I don't know what that means. I'm an -------, get used to it.

I personally just use my PC, because I'm living with a couple friends, sold my TV, and have a 26" monitor. In the next month or so (when my roommates close on their house and leave), I'll be streaming the media from a 7.5TB media server to two cheap HTPCs. My PC streams media to two other PCs in the house, whenever they feel like watching something.

Jago is the baller who is already streaming.
