Dont bother, if youre goals are over 200hp look into rods and slugs.

A properly designed block guard doesnt cause overheating. That being said just slap rods and pistons in and call it a day.I wouldnt bother with anything unless you got coin for sleeves.

I dont like block gaurds for the reason you "tap" them in. you can distort the cylinders alot with them, not just out of round but acually moving the whole thing from one side to the other. Its not really the designs fault its because they are not going on to a machined surface and no two blocks water jackets are exactly the same. If a person was to file fit one to perfection and weld that bitch in place then bore it and deck it, it would work fine. Again though like it was said, not needed.

If its a good one, and you bore the block after you put it in, but I just wouldn't use it

yah im going .040 overbore but i dont plan on going over 15psi or 300hp.. should i just leave it out?

Re: blockguard good until what HP?

you can make that hp w/o it. just leave it out

I put one in my LS/vtec and it was file fitted by hand and then bored and decked after.I was hoping if anything it would hold the ---- together when i crack a sleeve and not demo the pistons and best case prevent a failure in the first place. It was a GE unit and I cant see it causing overheating.

Re: blockguard good until what HP?

since were talking about blockguards:

my new engine is going in the car in a week or so. I have a block guard in the car now. I never had any issues with overheating (mine has holes cut in it that match the ones in the hg) BUT, the allign hone needed to straighten the bores made using stock 75mm pistons (vitaras) useless. Too much ring end gap that ended up making the car slow. So in this one im gonna leave it stock or post it.

so since were talking about posing now: can i do it myself? The thought of drilling through my block and into the sleeve makes me pretty nervous. But so does running 20+ psi with nothing supporting the d series sleeves.

Sorry for threadjacking, but at least its on topic ;D

Re: blockguard good until what HP?

its easy. have you ever drilled a hole and tapped it? if you have then you can post a block. just remember not to over torque. it doesnt take much to shift the cylinders

Re: blockguard good until what HP?

yea ive drilled and tapped plenty of holes before, but none that have a lot of money riding on them. Do you have to drill in the exact center of the sleeve? How far do you drill into the sleeve? How do you know when youve gone far enough in?

Re: blockguard good until what HP?

im not that ignorant. I read the whole posting tech project already. I dont get the part about cutting a tap in half... Because the part that starts the thread will go too far into the sleeve? I guess i can try it in a spare block i have first. How far into the sleeve to you drill and tap though? Its probably about a 1/2", so say 1/4"??

If you want the ultimate in homosexual experiences, you could look into posting. All that does is make the sleeve crack at 90 degrees angles to the post.

About 0 inches into the sleeve. That's not good.

sohcpwr 11-05-2006 10:39 PM

Re: blockguard good until what HP?

OHHHH, i thought it went into the sleeve and was torqued to 2 inch pounds. But its just torqued to touch the sleeve.

JD, not worth doing?
