Blew my rear main seal this morning. yayyy

well during a little spirited driving this morning on my way to school to take a test, I noticed it running like ---- under boost. Going down the highway I see all this smoke and the guy behind me washing his windshield like crazy. I pull over in teh next city to get some coffee and a bagel. look at teh back of my car and it is COVERED in oil and oil is dripping all over teh bottom of the car. I thought it had to be my return line at first, but nope. Oil is coming from btwn teh tranny and block like a fountain.

To add to the shittiness, I did a compression test yesterday and got 190 on cylinder 1 and 225 on all others.

I am on the lookout for a B18B to drop in tehre temporarily while I build this damn b16. I may not even bother dropping a b18 in there since I am about to purchase a '95 Jeep Cherokee.

If anyone has some hookups on cp pistons and eagle rods or anythgin let me know. the best deal I have found so far is around $850 combo deal on H-T.

I was hoping to not get to this step in my hobby for another year or so, but it looks like I'm gonna reach 400whp a lot sooner than I expected. (with all new ---- of course..turbo, fmic, etc) someone buy my old ----!

Didn't know hondas had a Rear Main Seal, they have a Main Seal, but it's not at the "Rear of the motor" more like the side.

That sucks.

I hate pulling the tranny. Especially when I don't have any help.

I have to pull mine soon to replace the clutch, and I'm not looking forward to it.

hell yea it sucks. I just dropped the motor like 3 weeks ago to put teh new clutch and flywheel in too. At the same time I replaced the front main and rear main seals. It was doing fine until this morning....Looks like I'll be driving a jeep daily for a few months. oh yea, I just washed the car yesterday too. now the back is COVERED in oil. :-\

Can anyone answer my question in Fooks pcv thread?

once you get over being pissed, it hdouldn't be that bad to replace it, a lot better than pulling the motor and rebuilding it

My'n is going out in the hyundai, but I don't care, i just put oil in every now and then but its not nearly as bad as yours sounds.

Re: Blew my rear main seal this morning. yayyy

well I know its not that bad, but its gonna need a rebuild in a fewmonths with the compression loss, so I'm just gonna do it all at one time instead of tearing it down again ina few months.

I'm really not that ticked off. I just didnt expect the seal to blow. I was planning to drive my car to a local meet in charleston and get it dynoed on this setup before I changed anything with it....now, if anything I'll be dynoing the jeep.

hp numbers don't mean that much, your 1/4 mile time is what matters do you have any time slips, cause really thats all you need to know.

I wanted to dyno for the sake of knowing and comparing with my later setup which is coming a lot sooner tan I expected.. and it was only $45 for 2 pulls with wideband.

Interesting, i have never seen a honda actually blow a main seal that bad, just a couple drops a day at most.. Are you sure you dont have a blowby problem? or something else?

Re: Blew my rear main seal this morning. yayyy

mine went out like yours did, barley a little hair line split and as soon as it would build pressure it just forced it open and oil out, fuckn sucks.

Re: Blew my rear main seal this morning. yayyy

hah yea im sure its the seal. at idle it just ------- drips constantly. after 10 minutes in a parking lot checking it out, I had a nice size puddle under the car. at least teh size of a circle you can make by touching both hands together. :o

I was worried like hell driving it directly back home.

new plan is, to buy an LS long block. maybe b16A longblock while I build me other b16 block. we'll see in a day or two.

just pop the tranny off and the clutch/flywheel, take all of 4 hours to change.

yea I know how to replace teh seal. I just did it. it didnt leak at all, then it just blew out the other day. I'm gonna be better off rebuilding the bottom end with forged internals in teh mean time. I beleive the low compression in one cylinder is causing my crank to wobble, and blow seals.
