Default Bike opinion help

hey,

ive been looking at two R6's, both the same price, one is a 2003 ( red with white detailing )on carbs, and only has 2000miles on it! the other is a 2004 ( red with black detailing ) on injection, but is like a facelift model with different fairings, and new style head lights, both are really clean bikes! im unsure of the mileage on the 2004,

the only other difference is the 03 has the delta box 2 chassis and the 04 has the delta box 3 chassis,

they are both the same price,
i took the one on carbs out today, the injection model had a flat battery, but will be testing it out

anyone own or have experience with either of the above? i am looking to buy asap, just looking for some opinions!

cheers,
Ross

My buddy has an older 97-98 r6 and i love that bike, the advantage of the carb bikes is that you can get a jet kit and haul *** while the computer chip kits are ------- expensive as hell for the FI models.. the newer r6 on the new chassis is a better bike as far as handeling is concerned and its fast as ---- stock, if i were you i would just get the 04 and slip on exhaust and leave it alone. Remeber bikes arent cars, if they pull close to a 10sec 1/4 mile stock you should leave that ---- alone, you dont need to go any faster

just my $000000000.02 how much r u going to be paying for it?

doesn't it make more sense to buy the newer bike for the same price, and isn't injection better than carbs??

^^^That's the truth.

But being around bikes all my life, unless you're ready to push the bikes as they should be, both will be suited just fine for street riding. There really were just a few small changes between 03 and 04 to the rest of the bike.

You can add a slip-on to either bike and only have to richen up the carb'd bike a little to run it that way. The 04 will pick up the slack automatically. Most people make the mistake of adding a slip-on and adding a stage 3 jet kit and then can't figure out why their bike is running so rich and isn't making any power.

With the 04, a Power Commander will accomplish the same, only from a laptop. You'll pay in the $2-300 for a Power Commander, but don't have the hassle of pulling the carbs to rejet, and have a pretty wide range of adjustment. Base maps are easy to find on the R6 forum too.

I would say at this point, it's all on how much you want to spend, and how much you want to work on your bike.

If you do pick up the 03, call up Dynojet, they have a pretty good base to start from on their tech line with regards to a rejet for wherever you live. I use them all the time when I get a bike I haven't put a jet kit into in the shop.

Just my 2 cents. Good luck with the bike.

cheers for the replies,

they are both £3800, about $6600ish?

i live on the isle of man in the UK, dunno if anyone is familiar with the TT races/mountain circuit, there are no speed limits on lots of roads, lol, so the bike would be getting used properly, but riden on the streets as well,

obviously both have there pros and cons, im not too fussed about making it that much faster just now, as its fast as ---- as mentioned,

ill get that battery pumped up to a sound 32psi and take it for a ride and see if i notice any difference,

Ross

Lucky son of a bitch! I don't think anyone who has been around bikes doesn't know about the Isle of Man. It's on my life list of things to see I can tell you that.

$6600 is a decent price on both of those bikes. With living there, I'd shoot for the 04. The suspensions are both ok for some quick street riding since the changes coming into 03, and the stiffer frame of the 04 will surely be felt. With a little suspension work and a set of Metzler Rennsports or Dunlop D208GP's and you'll have a hell of a bike for those roads.

I have a question for you, are there a lot of bike shops on the island? And are parts a pain in the *** to get?
