I'm not gonna bother reading your conversation but I will insert my 2 cents,

Think of it this way, you have a tennis ball and a basketball. You roll each of them exactly one full rotation, which one would have covered more distance. There's your answer.

man that`s one piece of ---- that u talked to.
he THINKS he knows everything.
explain to him with final drive ratio
assuming youe car only has 1 gear.
ask him y does taller gear gives u more mph at the same rpm
then ask him y does shorter gear gives u less mph at the same rpm

if he still don`t get it, bat a hundred bucks with him and have him ask his instructors/ or whoever

Re:Bigger wheels/tires = higher top end correct?

well that is the same thng as

7000RPM in 5th gear

RPM = rotations per minute

it is the same number of rotations per minute, but you have a bigger wheel. speed = distance moved/time

well since your time is the same, and rotation is the same, then the ditstance around each tire is not. the bigger wheel, more distance, more distance, more speed

Re:Bigger wheels/tires = higher top end correct?

ok.. lets get something straight.

the top speed (gearing) will get higher if the OVERALL WHEEL/TIRE circumference is more. (distance around the tire)

so if you go from 15's to 17's you wont see any difference because you will get a thinner tire to match hense retaining the original rolling diameter.

you 'could' get 180/60r17 but that would look homo on any car other then a lifted truck.

in your "conversation" you stated that you would get a higher top speed from going from 15's to 17's.. that is incorrect. as most people get a 205/40R17 tire.

understand?

Re:Bigger wheels/tires = higher top end correct?

well in his first example

185/60/14s
zc tranny
si fd
7000rpm in 5th gear = 126.91mph

185/60/17s
zc tranny
si fd
7000rpm in 5th gear = 143.65mph
it would be correct, but you do bring up a good point, if you are running 205/40/17's you will not gain any speed since it the thinner tire makes up for the larger rim, yeilding the same tire and rim height as stock (in most cases and that the stocks on your car are normal).

Re:Bigger wheels/tires = higher top end correct?

the sidewalls are the same based on those specs

185/60

so the extra 2" in diameter would make a difference since the tire sidewall is the same

Ask that crack head how those old bikes with the huge ass front wheel were able to go 40 mph with out really tryin...Hmmm... Go put a 14 on that bike and go 40 mph

exactly....

that'd be just like trying to go 100mph on your ------- rotors

lol
