BIGGER turbo doesnt means more power?

WTF?

when you get bigger turbo, or of other way. more air into engine.. you will have to supplier more fuel.. thats when you get power.. am i right?. then, if you get bigger turbo, yuo will not get more power?

Re: BIGGER turbo doesnt means more power?

yeah, bigger turbo is gonna supply more air, if you put the right amount of fuel in there with the new air your gonna get more power...

then bigger turbo "means" more power.. eh?.. ----.. i feel like : :1 , posting there somethings..

sometimes smaller turbos make more power then bigger ones.

but with more psi?

think of it like this a turbonetics .42/.48 @10psi will probly put out more power then a t-bird ihi .48/.52 @10psi

It's all about how efficient your turbo is for you setup. CFMs, compressor maps, blah blah, blah

how bout this...

a t3 .42/.48 on a D @ 10#'s of boost moves lets say 24 lbs of air a minute

while a t3 .60/.48 on a D @ 10#'s moves 27 lbs of air per minutes. The pressures are the same but the volume of air is different, So which will make more power? For that you need to define "power"

Everyone here knows the .42 will give you some awesome midrange and low end, but then again, everonye also knows it won't have as big of a kick in the pants as the .60 (or a .60/.63). So the .42 may make better usable power, and the .60 may make better peak power. But basically, a bigger turbo will flow more air at a lower pressure than a smaller turbo could.

doesnt matter mid-range, or peak power... just power numbers... too i think it dependes what engine you runing with that turbo for to get differente power-range...

look at t04e's the 50trim will make more power than a 54trim.

Re: BIGGER turbo doesnt means more power?

Bigger turbo doesn't always mean more power also because of the spool time. If you have a HUGE turbo that your engine cannot spool by red line then a smaller one that your engine can spool more quickly but doesn't fall on its face by red line will make much more power.

Basically what you want is a turbo that will spool relatively quickly depending on your application and one that will hold its boost (whatever you have it set at) until red line.

i means generally speaking...i know you need a turbo according ur engine for to get a good spool time..etc...

all about where your setup places in the turbos efficiency

durring the innitial tuning of my t70 setup i was only running 15 psi yes it was a dog but still had top end. just by upping the boost it was an incredible difference. the turbo just gulps way too much air and is not capable of achieving a sufficient airflow untill upper rpms. nonetheless stiffening the wastegate to make more airflow at lower rpm is achievable but the turbocharger will get to a sufficient rpm quicker and boost spike becomes a problem. if you are going to run a large turbo it is highgly important to slowly tune the fel curve untill the turbocharger is in its efficiency or otherwise the engine will detonate suddenly and at high levels of boost this can easily become destructive. big turbos are for built engines that can handle the level of horsepower supported by the turbocharger in its maxuimum efficiency range.

Re: BIGGER turbo doesnt means more power?

i always thought bigger turbo means that it can handle more hp.. but at the same time takes longer to make alot of power because of turbo lag..
