I have a GT score of 103. I really couldn't tell you what my asvab score was, as it really doesn't matter. Your GT score is what matters.

Recon is something anyone could try out for at any time. About once a year, they put it out there for everyone and open it up. You go for about a week and they run you through the ringer. PFT's, swimming, late nights, early days...you get fucked with every way possible.

Something else to think about is Anglico. They are sorta like recon but in a little different manner. Recon is based on grunt work. They go in first, poke around at the enemy, see what goes on and comes back and then the other ***** go in and destroy ----. Anglico guys go in and destroy ---- but on a small unit scale. They will go in, and then tell everyone else where to go. Dont know how to explain it, they are still somewhat new....but from my experiences, they are the recon guys without the jump wings and scuba bubbles. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Air_Nav...iaison_Company

I have no clue what you mean with the UZ contract. Thats something new to me. Everyone has the option to try out for recon.

How did I get the 0621 job? I joined into the 06 field, and got to be a 21. I didn't really choose. I just really didn't care, as long as I got the 06 field. You have the Marine Corps by the *****. You can tell them, and make sure you sign to it, to be a 21 or whatever you want.

ANGLICO is what i was going into if i took that reserve contract.

they are essential forward artillery observers, but have the ability to direct fire from not only US gunships and aircraft but also coalition forces.

very cool job, yet again i would have to pick the 08 field and would most likely become a 0844, not a 0861.

0844 http://usmilitary.about.com/od/enlistedjo2/a/0844.htm
0861 http://usmilitary.about.com/od/enlistedjo2/a/0861.htm

again rear echelon ----.

it all comes down to the fact that active duty contracts are just general contracts and the Marine corps then picks a job for the Marine.

so every other field, besides 03, im basically rolling the dice on whether i will be up front or in the rear. and with my scores i am above the 110 that is the highest required score of any enlisted job. such as in the comm field

0651 http://usmilitary.about.com/od/enlistedjo2/a/0651.htm
0656 http://usmilitary.about.com/od/enlistedjo2/a/0651.htm

these are probally hard jobs to fill, and with my scores i am probally among the few qualified to do them that chose 06xx, so why would the marines put me up front in a job that requires a score 20 points lower?

in the 03 field the worst that could happen is i would be a LAV crewman

0313 http://usmilitary.about.com/od/enlistedjo2/a/0313n.htm

so with that in mind i believe, like you have stipulated, the Marine Corp is not going to let me go up front.

p.s. while everyone is supposed to be allowed to try out for recon (and may get the chance down the line), the UZ contract option expressly garuntees that you are allowed to try out immediately after SOI.

I mean, ok.

I like what i do, its fun, i stay badass places (besides quatar and iraq)

I would never be able to go into the marines now knowing what i know now and living the lifestyle i live now...

But i guess if i didn't know alot about the marines, or the military in general.. I would be open to things.

Ever thought of going on a i believe AC130 gun ship? Or something like that?

I really enjoy being in the aviation field, i couldn't imagine doing anything else..

um, not to sure where your info for Anglico is coming from, or maybe its just what I have worked with...but lots and lots of comm guys go to Anglico units. Who do you think sends all of that info to the birds and the guns? Comm guys. I know of several 0621's and 0612's that go to the Anglico units. Hell, while out in Arizona for the month of October, I talked to Anglico guys over the radio pretty much the entire time.

You wanna see some of the ---- I did for the month of October? BTW, I have been in the wing for the past 3.5 years. The time prior to that, I was ground side, supporting grunts.

Your gonna be rolling the dice even with being an 03. Your not gonna be fighting the fight 24/7. In fact, out of 4 years, your probably going to be deployed maybe 12 months of that entire time. Weird to think about it like that, huh?

Hatchboy, your thinking about the KC130, which would actually be another option for you. Anything on the wing side would be for you, and yes, you can enlist into any of it just like any job in the Marine Corps. You could be the guy hanging out of the hell hole.

No he's not. He's talking about the AC130, which is also a KC130 except the AC is called a gunship and the KC is a cargo plane. Same plane, two functions. How's that 69 asvab score workin out for you? haha.

yes, there are radio operators in an ANGLICO unit and they play a intergal role.

there is also an 0861, one or two 0331s, a 0847 and sometimes a 0844.

there are currently only 2 active duty ANGLICO battalions, with a total of 8 FCTs.

no active duty ANGLICO battalions have jump status as far as my knowledge goes,

of the 3 reserve ANGLICO units only 2 have jump status and the 5th ANGLICO is never supposed to get jump status.

although all of this info is derived from the internet and may be outdated.

my information is gathered all over the place. wikipedia, about.com, and the individual ANGLICO unit websites, mostly 3rd ANGLICO.

would be a badass job.

My advice is to get your info from Frank only. He has no interest in a recruiting quota.

Frank, can you type some more? I still like long military stories...

well i dont think the 2 sgts that i hang out with regularly and the Ssgt. that i spent a couple hours talking to on thanksgiving have recruiting quotas either.

and the Lt. Col. who is scheduled to take command of 3rd ANGLICO that i corresponded with through email.

or the retired infantry GSgt. up the street from me.

not to mention my friends that are in the army, but this is a Marine discussion.

i take my information from all over, and dont think for an instant that im not retaining everything he is typing.

but only the ignorant take everything they are told without questioning it.
