better for fan to push or pull???

im putting in a 'custom' radiator and fan setup. the fan will push or pull depending on the way you hook it up. so the question is what is better?

I think it would be better if it pulled in air from the front of the car.... just like when your driving.... rather than push it out... cause when you think about it .... its rather illogical to try to go against it.. say your stuck in traffic and you put it so it pushes air out from the front... well your going slowly... so now theres a draft... and your fan has to compete with this draft.... and well you get the point... i see it as ineficient....

in the front will give you more room for a turbo. make sure you get ones that spin both ways though. you can get slim fans at autozone or pep boys for around 60 bux then wire them up to blow into the radiator and mount em in front.

Re:better for fan to push or pull???

Hey turbo,Ok heres my take on them.I've had some experience with front mounts and rear mount fans,Some points to think about are 1.front mount is susceptable to damage from "road crap!" but they will run cooler due to them being in front of the heat source.if they are mounted behind they are more protected but heat will raise the electric motors operating temp(Yeah I know some of you will say but not that much but heat is a electric motors biggest enemy no matter a few degrees or not!)and over time they will quit.As for the pro-I remember from school that an electric fan is a better puller than pusher due to drag.If my memory serves me right its something like 30% more effecient as a puller than a pusher!(just something to think about)Anyhow just keep in mind which way you wire the motor(direction of spin)any mistakes there means early death to the nice new cooling fan ;D Ok I'm done rambling.Hope this info helps.

Both work just fine, my racecar's fan is mounted in the front for clearence reasons. Hondas hardly run that hot anyways. I dont think you will have any clearence issues with a fan on the normal side.

To add to the Pros and Cons already mentioned, w/ the rear mount you maximize the radiator area exposed to ram air which effects must not be underestimated. Best results on the pull will come from shrouding the corners so air won't simply by-pass and get pulled from the sides instead of through the heat exchanger. If you're not planning on shrouding the fan I'd probably go with the front mount ....... but like the Man said, it'll probably work fine from either side.

i have the smaller of the two stock fans relocated to in front of my fluidyne radiator, but my car doesnt run yet so i dont know if it will work. freed up a lot of space though
