Re:Best Welder under $400
i would say to definitly go with the mig. much more convenient and you'll get better welds as long as you use argon. i'm no professional but just from some limited welding experience migs are much easier to weld with. but i guess it also depends on what you plan on welding

Re:Best Welder under $400
I would go with the Lincoln. But get a mig machine. Not to sure about that harbor frieght macine though.I'm now on my 5th welder and now I'll only use Lincoln or Miller. They cost more but, you'll have less down time with your welder. What are you gonna weld?

Re:Best Welder under $400
i wanna weld everything necessary to do w/ turbo
im thinking mig b/c the arc gets hot and its a pain to use w/ exhaust piping but i plan on welding the following things when i become capable 1) Full Exhaust 2) Manifold 3) IC piping 4) BOV on charge pipe pretty much that kind of stuff..... |
Re:Best Welder under $400
----,all that?Seems like your gonna be doing alot of work. You should just spend the extra $300,$400 dollars and get a tig machine. There are some small scratch start tig machines out there for about $700.

Re:Best Welder under $400
I got my lincoln MIG 135 at powertoolstore. For $388 they have a special on free shipping, have to pay for Handling charges 10 bucks. SO it came out to 398. Go with the MIG, but go with a well known brand of welders, as when replacing parts its going to be a bitch to find a place that carries your parts. Look for Lincoln,MIller,Hobart mig welders, as home depot carry parts for the lincoln welders. Spend that extra money, it will be well worth it. ;D As for TIG? it's not a hobby welder, it's for serious welding, unless you going to into production of some kind, yeah then invest in one. OH yeah, when welding TIG, wear full protection as you will get one hell of a sun tan. ;) good luck..

Re:Best Welder under $400
thanks for all the help...is the OBX piece of ---- exhaust manifold a good design. i know they use shitty materials and their welds are for ----, but how bout the design. im looking for some extra flow instead of doing a straight to the turbo. i would of coarse do all equal length tubing...i was just curious if anyone thought it was a good style design....
