Eh, I picked it off with my fingers and then sanded it all off.

And for the record, it was Spenser not Travis. You're getting your Canadians screwed up.

First remove the paint with aircraft stripper like mentioned. To clean it good I use Simple Green in a BIG bucket and fully submirge the cover. Soak it overnight or a few days and rinse it well.

If you don't want to deal with burning chemicals, use Ready Strp, made by back to nature. It rocks ;)

I need to do the same thing. What kind of place should I look for aircraft stripper?

Autozone, pepboys they all carry it in a spray can. Works pretty good. I use the brush on industrial crap that REALLY burns and the paint is off in 15 minutes if that! I dont know where to get it because I work at a Dealership and get mine from the bodyshop :)

Re: Best way to clean a valve cover?

does that aircraft cleaner stuff work at cleaning all kinds of engine parts or is it a paint stripper only kinda deal?

I figure if i have to buy a huge can of it for just my valve cover i may as well clean up my intake manifold too and make everything shinny

If you're going to strip the paint off, aircraft stripper works good. Once most of it is off, a fairly abrasive sand paper works well to get rid of all the crap that might be left behind.

aircraft remover says on the side of the can that. the state of california has recognized it as a possible cancer causer.. so use that ---- in a highly ventelated room.

some guy on ht lit the aircraft remover on fire after he sprayed his cover.. seemed to turn out well. I'll try to find the link.

Re: Best way to clean a valve cover?

Hell they sell aircraft stripper at walmart in their automotive spraypaint section. I stopped by autozone the other day to get a oil filter for my car and noticed that they sell wrinkle spray paint now in black and red cause I know people are always looking for that ---- and can never find it. Just a heads up. I've done all my valvecovers with just aircraft stripper and a cleaned it off with a garden hose. Had go over it a couple of times but pick up a wire wheel for that hard to reach ---- and then you can get that baller polished look at the same time. :P
