Best sounding muffler IYO?
What is the best sounding muffler out there in your opinion? When i get the rest of my DP finished I'm just gonna have 2.5 piping ran back, but I'm gonna need a muffler. I'm tempted to just buy a "Tanabe Style" generic muffler because I've heard that Tanabe Racing Medallion sounds good..
Let me know what sounds good and where to get em.. |
Re:Best sounding muffler IYO?
I have an RS*R catback. I kept it because it's already 2.5", and you can barely hear it. Sounds stock.
|
Re:Best sounding muffler IYO?
I prefer the 2.25 with two large glasspacks, and a resonated tip, sounds nice and deep, and only cost me about 120 from my muffler shop. But your going turbo, so i would say 2.5, and some glasspacks, CHEAP, and sounds great.

Re:Best sounding muffler IYO?
yeah glaspacks soundrealy good. i use one and a greedy mufler REALY NICE TONE.

Re:Best sounding muffler IYO?
Sebring works good for me.
|
Re:Best sounding muffler IYO?
use a stock muffler off a car that came with 2.5 inch piping. maybe a turbo muffler. they work great for muscle cars. they're quiet at idle and cruising, but when you WOT they open up and let the exhaust out. no rice boy mufflers people please.
|
Re:Best sounding muffler IYO?
I was waiting for the rice alternative, Random. Thanks. Do you think this could be any stock replacement from a muffler shop with those inlet sizes, or would you only trust a true stock? I hate noise. (I'm Stealth) :-*

Re:Best sounding muffler IYO?
But no matter what still go with like one or two glasspacks no matter the muffler?
Might be time to look for a junkyard muffler... Thanks for the help random |
Re:Best sounding muffler IYO?
well i wouldn't go as far as saying a junkyard muffler. mufflers are really cheap.
if you have enough space for a turbo muffler. yes thats a brand :) go for it. they're wide. they aren't like a glasspack. but you can get em with 2.5inch inlets and outlets. also. what size pipe do v6 camaros and mustangs have? what about v8 trucks. they gotta have a big muffler on them. that'll give you good flow and no noise :) i have all stock exhaust except my downpipe on my crx. quiet as hell until the turbo starts whistling |
Re:Best sounding muffler IYO?
borla with 2.5 catback
|
Re:Best sounding muffler IYO?
i have a saber performance muffler on my car. People always comment on the sound. (they like it)
|
Re:Best sounding muffler IYO?
flowmaster bullet muffler, or equivalent (glasspack)
|
Re:Best sounding muffler IYO?
Me for now..it's stock, but a 2 inch downpipe with the rest 3" exhasut will go on and no resonator or muffler..just for the time being and for this weekends reace off coarse ;D.
Hope it isn't to loud though...at least i hope it will be motr quiet than when I only ran the 2" downpipe hehehe |
Re:Best sounding muffler IYO?
if you can hear a 4 cyclinder in anyway. it sounds like ----. i don't care what muffler. if you can hear it. it sounds like ass
|
Re:Best sounding muffler IYO?
5 Zigen Fireball for me. Has a deep tone, but it's fairly quiet.
|
Re:Best sounding muffler IYO?
str8 exhaust, no cat, resonators or mufflers...sounds good to me
|
Re:Best sounding muffler IYO?
what are the advantages of an exhaust cutout?? i'm thinking of going with 2.5 inch piping, a cutout and the stock muffler(sleeeeper style 8)), i've seen ones in JC Whitney(cheapass, I know) that you can open up for aggressive driving(out in the conetry) and u close it for cruising out town so your $hit don't sound all raspy and ricey..ANYWAAAAYS would this be a good setup?? AND don't nobody jock it...peace
|
Re:Best sounding muffler IYO?
greddy. rsr. of all the things to waste money on, i think the muffler is worth it. maybe not the catback piping, but the muffler section definitely. going with anything generic or universal and not having heard it on a setup exactly like yours is a gamble imo.

Re:Best sounding muffler IYO?
Previously I ran a dynomax turbo muffler on 2.25" exhaust through a hi-flo cat, it was very quiet had a deep rumble to it somehwhat. Before that I had just the hi-flo cat and straight pipe out, very loud and very annoying.
Now I am using 3" exhaust from the cat back, and pass through a generic glass pack. My exhaust doesn't have buzzing, or other obnoxious ---- and its still emissions legal in Colorado :) Its still kind of a ricey sound, but thats inevitable with a 4 cylinder engine with a stroke like Honda, but it doesn't sound like those crap ass fart cans or those $600 exhausts from pos greddy. The whole setup has cost me less then $400 to have redone 3 times lol |
Re:Best sounding muffler IYO?
i ran a flowmaster 50 series on mine and it was louder than the str8 exhaust
|
Re:Best sounding muffler IYO?
i do open downpipe or flowmaster 40 series. the flowmaster sounded good before the turbo and my friends turbo civic sounded good with it too. very quiet all you can hear is turbo spool and bov.
do not do a junkyard muffler, it will be so rusted and corroded and flow like ----. it would be a bitch to get off and then a bitch to install too. |
Re:Best sounding muffler IYO?
Anyone ever used a Spin-tech muffler on a honda? My friend has one on his silverado and it's suppost to accually create a turbulence that helps suck the exhaust out. Suppost to be some Nascar spec ---- or something. It's pretty quiet on the truck, but with the turbulence thingy to help the turbo, maybe for Honda?
Random- you probably heard of this ----? |
Re:Best sounding muffler IYO?
one thing to remember about glass packs is that after a while the fiberglass settles together and the muffler becomes more like a pipe... ie raspy noises from a muffler that used to sound deep. Albeit cheap to replace glasspacks, a turbo muffler will give about the same sound but won't burn out.
|
Re:Best sounding muffler IYO?
no i havent' heard of that. although i had always thought to myself. could i rifle my exhaust pipes to spin the air out. creating velocity?
|
Re:Best sounding muffler IYO?
u should hook up one of those electric turbos to pull the exhaust out....lol ;D but seriously for performance a str8 exhaust of 2.25" to 3" would be good. it does resonate but not as bad as the flow master, at 70 it sound like someone had a subwoofer on low playing the same tone. maybe a stock muffler with an exhaust cutout before so when ur ready to "perform" u just switch. i can only see cops giving ricers more problems with the loudness of their exhaust

Re:Best sounding muffler IYO?
This is what I have...
Gutted Cat (poor kitty) 2.5in piping (cat-back) 2.5in Comptech Resonator 2.5in Straight magnaflow Muffler..(primered black for that sleeper look) It has a deep low hum, none of that ricey ---- or robot sound...... on low RPM's and Rips your eardrum out when you punch it... this is of coarse when its N/A... With a turbo on its quiet as ----.... |
Re:Best sounding muffler IYO?
Stealth, i know what your talkin about, they sell em in the back section of turbo and ---- like that. You can get em for your intake too. I've never actually got one, but I heard good things about it. The science end of it is understandable. Oh yeah, I ran duals out in front of the back wheels. Stock, the exhaust pipe runs staight and turns left at the gas tank,... T there and run both sides. 2.5inch. no muffler ::)but i don't drive and i'll cut it in later.
|
Re:Best sounding muffler IYO?
On my car I have a one of those 3inch bomb mufflers with a custom 2.5 exhaust and one of those race spiral cats from ebay and it is quite as hell with turbo on. During idle it has a very low grumble and when accelerating all you hear is turbo.
