best piston rings?

well, i've ordered everything to build my block except for rings. just wondering what you guys prefer and some experiences you may have with a certain brand (how many miles with no problems, etc.). i'm kind of leaning towards the cp gas nitride rings, but wanted to hear some opinions.

ive heard bad thinks about total seal rings (gapless) in forced induction applications. Any decent ring should do fine. Dont forget, jeff has used napa rings with good results, i think the hone/cylinder wall surface quality is more critical than ring choice, you really cant go wrong with oem/je/wiseco/whatever rings, but specialty rings like total seal you should probably avoid.

I'm not turbo, but on my last build I went with OEM rings and a simple cylinder hone on my all motor setup

Yup, I just got back from the dealer today with a new set of OEM rings. $37/piston and they mic'd/ measured out exact. Last week I had to return a set of rings to Advanced Auto because the side clearance was waaaay off. Thankfully they took them back without complaint.

why dont use wiseco rings then? It'd make sense to me...

Actually I had a guy tell me to check if some of those aftermarket pistons will allow using honda OEM rings. I guess I dont understand why you would want to use honda OEM rings since arent those the suckers that are the first to go in a boosted application? Any thoughts?

actually, the ringlands usually go and take the rings along with them ; :P yeah, you can use oem rings on most aftermarket pistons, they usually have the same size 'groove' (1.0, 1.2, and 2.8mm i believe) to allow for the use of different rings if you choose. but like mentioned, i've heard people having problems with clearances and having to file rings down etc. when using aftermarket rings that are 'suppose' to be a direct fit for the specified bore, but oem are a perfect fit all the time, unless you had some fucked up machine work done :-X
