best d series tranny for turbo

Hey wouldn't the d series tranny of a d15b1 (88-91 std ) be the best transmission for a turbo d series car because of the long ass gears? tell me which tranny works best for turbo d series

shorter gears = faster acceleration, boosted or not

z6 or y8 tranny

Definetly shorter gears.

That's like the guys who swap in a B16 in to their civic with a LS tranny because it's faster for turbo... LOL!! Then they get spanked by the guys with the B16 trannys :)

Re: best d series tranny for turbo

i take it this guy is running cable, since he specified the 88-91 std tranny.

So in the event you are cable, those hydro trannies are useless to you unless you wanna go through the hassle of converting... exactly useless.

Best easily accessible bet, Si, EX or DX, LX.

I'd go with the cheaper one. I had a DX tranny and I was very pleased with it. But the Si would be the primo choice.

note that I said easily accessible, so I tossed out the ZC/ZC hybrid option.

Si for sure ;)

Re: best d series tranny for turbo

ZC, if you want the Equal length driveshafts, but otherwise Si tranny. Or, if you want LSD you need the Si, or ZC with no equallength driveshafts(what I have)

6th Gen Si is B-series. Is the old (4th Gen and 5th Gen) trannies still D-series then right? I thought those 2 Gens also shared the same tranny between the Si and EX.

Nope, Ravage70 gets the gold star on this one. The boosted 5.0 guys can tell you that trading their 3.73 and 3.55 gears for 3.08's really wakes the car up.

Hey, I just bought an 88 STD for $150, planned on dropping a D16 in it. Are you guys telling me that STD transmissions are good for something?? Amazing - I was just going to throw it away.

well ----, when did they start putting d-series motors in 5.0's??

Re: best d series tranny for turbo

4 speed STD trannys are of value...........

Usually good 1-2 shifter fork, saves $60

sell the 3rd gear to someone wanting a nice 4th gear in a 92-00 tranny $25

spare case, nice to have :)

Yes. Thank you. B16A2 optional? I thought it was standard in the Si for 6th Gen?
