I just wanted to let everyone in on my fun filled day.
It started off with me driving to ohio (I live in PA) to get a $300 winter beater so I can get around during the winter instead of using my good car. I get to this rundown ohio dealership to look at this 89 Toyota Tercel and test drive it, everything looked ok for a beater. The car was in pretty bad shape but it looked and felt like it would last me at least the winter (I'm no mechanic though). So I tell the guy I'll buy it off him for $250 he says yes and he writes up the papers. I signed a few things, somethings I probably shouldn't have signed, one of which being a paper that gives him the write to sign my signature if he needs to and an "AS-IS" agreement.

So I start driving down the road heading home, my friends are following me, and about 15 minutes into the drive I notice the temperature guage is just a bit high (all the way in the red!) and puffs of smoke start coming from the engine bay. I pulled over and found out that I may have a blown headgasket judging from the color of the antifreeze that was pouring out of the block . Luckily their was an Advanced Auto down the street so I went their to get some K&W headgasket sealer (somethin like that, the stuff that's basically glue and metal shavings). I poured it into the radiator and fired her up again, still overheated. So... I'm 150 miles away from my home, it's getting very late, and I've got a car in my name that I can't get home. What to do?

I drove it to the nearest mall and let my friend learn how to drive a manual . After he was done, the engine pretty much blew. I heard a loud pop and nothing but smoke was coming from the engine bay. After nearby pedestrians got through with their "KABOOM!!"'s my friends and I proceeded to trash the car. Kicking panels in, jumping on the roof, etc (I got video of this so maybe I'll post it sometime ). Then I took the temp licence plate off and left a note on the window that said "Having engine problems, be back monday to tow".

So I have a car in my name sitting in Ohio with no licence plate. My questions to all of you guys is... what kind of ---- can I get into leaving my car there like that? How can I get the car towed away to a junkyard for free (I heard Salvation Army)? And do you think it's possible for me to get my money back (doubt it)? Maybe can I call him up and pressure him to give my money back? Thanks everyone for listening to my story, I'm not really that pissed about all this cuz it was only $300 I just don't want this to come back and bite me in the *** and I could have bought my hks bov and charge pipes with that money . Thanks again guys.

It sounds like it would benefit you to try a new headgasket, but if you've cancelled all your Toyota Tercel dreams, go set it on fire and say it caught fire. At least you'll have the satisfaction of watching it burn to the ground.

Or......walk up to some random person and hand them the keys and tell them the car is theirs, "consider yourself a winner." That would be funny too.

go to the DOL with your registration and declare that you have no interest in this car. tell them you dont want it anymore, and then if it gets towed you wont be liable for cost. you have to go to the DOL before they tow, or your out some cash

I dont know about Ohio but in Virginia an abandoned car gets towed to a storage lot for 90 days, in that time the DMV sends a registered letter to the last known owner, if you dont pay the tow and storage bill in thirty days the car is sold at public auction. I dont think there is any charge to the owner of the car after that. There are towing companys that do this all the time, it's a no lose situation for them, you pay there high towing and storage bill or they sell your car and keep the money. I go to these auctions all the time, I have gotten some realy good deals. You will never get your money back, it was sold AS IS NO WARRANTY, if Ohio is like Virginia there are laws about this, think about it from the dealers side of things, how does he know you didn't drive home in first gear. Like the CarMax commercial says people do some strange things to cars. I wouldn't wory about signing things at a car dealer, they have very limited power to do anything, and very harsh fines and jail time if they do anything they are not supposed to do. I worked for used car dealers for years and I still know a few people with dealerships, you should be fine unless the guy is a real scum bag.

Onyx - I believe it was called "Power of Attorney". It means that he can sign for me on the title and things like that if he needs to so I don't have to drive out to Ohio. I didn't like the idea of me signing this but I didn't want to drive back out to Ohio to sign a peice of paper either.

Stealth - I may see if I can buy a head gasket and put it on but I'm not sure if it may need more than that ya know? If that doesn't work it would be fun to set it on fire but it may do damage to the mall parking lot or something and I don't know if I would get fined or anything I dunno... seems like it may cause some headaches for me if their is a massive fire in a mall parking lot.

hotrex - Not a bad idea! I don't know if the cops would let me do that because someone might call the police. I dunno, maybe I'll try it.

45psi - Department of Licensing? I wouldn't have the first clue as to where one of their locations is in Ohio, can I go there in Pennsylvania?

I once sold a car with no title to some kid. I actualy gave the car to him. I'm waiting until he fixes it all up nice for me so I can show up with the cops to take it back.(j/k ) It was my first car.

Well if the car suddenly catches fire i don't see how it could be your fault. I was at college once and this guys car started to smoke on the road soon enough it started to catch fire ,---- was awesome. Complete anarchy dude smoke was everywhere covered like half the road damn it was sweet. The fire men wouldn't even touch it. Well the guy never got in trouble for it cause it decided it was not his fault ,the fire man said it could've of been anything that started it .

i hate beaters with a passion, every dime you spend wont do ----, the thing is just gonna rust into the ground and be a big expense. you minds well burn you money than try to fix a shitmobile. thats how i look at it after trying to fix my last fucked up *** crx.

it felt good to pay $50 for the junkyard guy to pull it up on his truck with no wheels tires and shooting sparks.
