Default BBKA TiAL Wastegate Install with Jeff/Beau/Pat :::PICS:::

Well since I have been having major spiking/creeping issues lately I decided it was time to step up to a nice external wastegate. I ended up getting a brand new silver TiAL 38mm wastegate with a .6 bar (8.7psi) spring for $215 shipped. I drove up to Everett so Beau could weld it on for me and I stopped by Jeff’s house before hand so we could cut a hole in the manifold and get it all ready for welding. I decided to just leave my internal wastegate on for a backup incase my TiAL failed… haha just kidding. Actually I left it on and just unpluged the signal going to the actuator and by doing this I won’t have to weld the WG hole shut. This way when I sell the turbo the person who buys it can still use the internal WG if they want to. Somehwere in the process of cutting my manifold Jeff lost my c-clip the holds the actuator arm on, so I had to drive all the way home with no boost. Beau put a tack weld on it, but it came off. Anyways on to the pics…

Jeff cutting the hole in my manifold.

That schedule 40 316L SS is pretty thick lol. That's some nice smoke ya got going there Jeff.

It wore down the brand new hole saw we bought at sears in no time.

Me cutting the pipe that goes inbetween the manifold and the wastegate. The hole was actually more of a heart shape that a circle, so a little modification had to be done. Jeff’s new air saw worked very well.

Me talking on the phone with Stealthmode helping him through the process of building his engine.

Beau getting ready to weld by eating some chinese food and drinking some coors light. I bought the beer at some minit mart before we got to Beau’s and I didn’t even get carded!

Here is the pipe and flange all mocked up and ready to weld.

Beau putting a little more “Garrison Gerth” on my sexy manifold.

Looks like my belt was a little too loose lol. Nice pic Jeff, but why were you checking my *** out?

After the manifold was all welded I bolted the turbo up… anybody see what happened here? Nobody noticed until I was done tighting everything down. Yeah… I bolted the turbo on backwards lol. I’m not really sure who is to blame or how it happened, but none the less it was a little embarrassing.

After that little set back we though using a few more hands would get things done faster.

Beau measuring? I already measured before hand, so I knew everything was going to fit. EG’s have a ton of room in the front if you don’t have A/C.

It was pretty late and Beau’s girlfriend Kim was sleeping. She came down and told us we couldn’t use the chop saw, so I had to cut the dumptube with a little hand saw. My ************ skills came in very handy, but the little saw just didn’t work. We finally talked Beau into letting us fire up the chop saw and got it cut in 2 seconds.

We were in Jeff’s white auto hatch and decided to see how this thing pulls on the freeway. Jeff had it floored from the on ramp coming back from Beau’s all the way until we got to his exit. It must have been floored for a good solid 5 minutes, but it just wouldn’t go any fatser than 90mph lol. It kinda smelled funny in the jack in the box drive threw after we got off the freeway.

Here are a few pics of the WG all welded up and on the car.

The dumptube came out pretty well, but it’s pointing right at the bottom of the radiator. It will be an easy fix though after a little cutting and welding. Thanks again for that thin wall pipe Jeff.

Here are a few shots I took of my car. I think it kinda looks like a CRX in the second pic the way it’s angled lol.

Yeah for some reason I can't talk and work at the same time, once I start talking I get distracted. Jeff must have told me like 10 times to keep working while I was talking lol.

Well since the c-clip was lost I wasn't able to boost much. I did maybe one rip in 1st and a little of 2nd gear before the tack weld Beau put on there broke off. Once I get that all fixed I will let you know. Jeff said it held a good solid 8psi though.

Looking good! It'll be nice to not worry about boost creeping.
