Default BBKA is back! He swapped to a DOHC!

Haha yeah right... ---- teh B-series! :P

So where have I been? Long story short, I got a real job and moved out. This all happened about the time Jeff got all his ---- jacked, so he was talking about getting out of the car scene and I was bored with my car. I didn't have the money or motivation to do anything car related, I guess that's why I haven't posted on here in so long. HMT is like a family and I just didn't want to half *** post and flake out on everybody when it came to HMT events, so I said ---- anything car related. Plus I had other ---- to deal with like my old job and court ---- (that's why I currently don't have my license), but that's a whole different story I'd rather not get into.

Anyways so back to cars. I am sick of my car, it's way too slow for me and I have done just about everything I can on my stock motor, so that means it's time to step up to a built motor. I'm getting another daily driver coupe soon (end of next month probably) for a really good price, so I can build mine, trade it, or sell it for a hatch. As for the motor I am either going to go with my current D16z6 or say ---- it and go B-series. My goals in the 1/4 mile are going to be 10's and 130mph and my goals on the dyno will be 350whp on pump gas and 500whp on race gas, but the only goal I really want to hit would be 10's, so if the others are a little off that would be okay.

I have done more research than you can shake a stick at and I know I could reach my goals with a D16z6, but it's going to cost me a lot more, be harder, and I would be more worried about breaking things. My main concern is the cylinder head and how much it will cost to get built right, because for the power I want I will need an extremely good head and very efficient turbo setup. I will be going with stock sleeves no matter what motor I go with, D-series or B-series. I'll be running pump gas most of the time, so again it will be harder to reach my goals with the SOHC. I have already planned on a gt30r, which will easily reach my goals on a DOHC and would come very close with my SOHC.

Everybody and their mom has a DOHC swapped hatch, so if I can do it with a SOHC coupe I think I would be happier, but I know it will cost me more in the long run. I am like the hardcore SOHC for life guy lol, so if I went DOHC I don't know if I could ever forgive myself. I talked with Jeff who has done 2 SOHC buildt motors and he said not to ---- around and go B-series, then you have hotrex's and stevemode's failed attempts at a SOHC build. I think I would like the challenge more if I stuck with my SOHC and I just think it would be more badass to have the original motor that came in the car still in there. Plus I love the look on people's faces when they find out I have a D-series motor, specially when I smoke their DOHC.

So what do you guys think?

I think you should stay D. Owning bitches with the under dog is always fun.

I kinda want to keep my coupe also, but a VX/CX hatch would be so much lighter. All I know is that when I get my friend's coupe I am going to gut the ---- out of my car or get a hatch to gut the ---- out of, so I can throw a cage in something lol.

Your whole post is how I feel all the time. How fun it would be to own nignogs with a D series, yet then wonder how much better the B series would have been. Granted, my D series was the first motor I ever built, so I blew it up, but I still feel the same way all the time.

I have no advice.

Go D-series, i plan on building my d-series (d16y sometime this summer or maybe next year right now i'm looking into a GT2871R though. my goal is only ~300whp anything more is just icing on a cake. Hopefully i can be in the 11's, 12's will be fine though i just want a decently quick daily driver. i should be picking up some brand new eagle rods/srp pistons pretty soon, probably will end up selling the pistons though. Hey if it doesn't work out you could always part out your motor and come out close to even and go b-series right? lol

I already have a Quaife LSD, so my tranny should be fine. I guess I am just trying to get moral support on what I should do. I really want to stay D-series, but I'm not going to lie, a B-series would be a smarter choice.

It just pisses me off when these DOHC guys talk ---- and say SOHC motors are worthless, when I know that just isn't true. ZEX Man is a good example... he ran 10.3 @ 148mph with a D16z6... that's 9's.

yeah when i had my CRX I kept it D series just bc of the reliability and how simple they are to work on. I think they are a good motor no doubt, every honda motor is to me in some aspects.
