For both the ancient Egyptians and the Dorian Greeks temple building were their major building type. However, the two cultures produced two very different types of temple designs, both formally and conceptually. Using examples and material from class and the text write two or three paragraphs that discuss these differences, their development over time and their effects on our perceptions of them. In what ways, physically and intellectually, is the Doric temple a more refined and sophisticated structure? -and a more "human" structure?
Also, for Friday's Discussion:
-How do you respond to the Greek's refined and intellectually based architecture? Does it appeal to you or not? Why? Or, why not?
-What do the terms "classic" and "classical" mean to you? What makes something a "classic"?
