bad experience at the junkyard

So I got shafted on ebay by some ------- that sold me a fucked up turbo so I went to the junk yard today to see if I could find my self a T3. To my surprise they were having a 50% off sale on everything! So I pulled a Garrett Aireseach T3 externel wastegated with no side to side or in and out play off a Sabb.I was stoked! I found another Garrett with internal wastegate off another Sabb then one off a Volvo and pulled them both.I was EXTATIC!I figured i could sell the two others and keep one........................but when I took a break(after pulling turbos for 4 hours) I took my wire brush to the exhaust intake port I found TWO ------- CRACKS in two of the turbos :o.NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!! Is this common or do I just have bad luck?

---- I was pissed. So I only walked out of there with the external wastegated one.
So now I have a dilemma ???.Do i sell my HF manni.and keep the externally wastegated turbo and get a custom manni. with external wstegate flange or do I sell the turbo and get an internally wastegated one that will work with my HF manni.................HeLP! :-\?

All T3's used for longer than four minutes have those cracks in the turbine housing. Nothing strange there, doesn't hurt anything.

I thought cracks were weak points.they were pretty deep and wide.since they come off a car with set boost could the the carcks go all the way through with higher boost/temp?

i would stay away from cracked turbos. youll loose pressure and who knows what else can happen.betyter luck next time ;D

It really depends on where you want to go in the future. External is better for controlling boost ,you don't see internal wastegates on a lemans racer. Internal is good for average use ,i got a external cause i will be boosting a 6 and thinking of future upgrades. I think it would be cheaper for upgrades if you keep a external. But for now if you don't want to just buy a internal setup turbo. you can always upgrade that to a external one ;)

The more i think about it I think I am going to keep the turbo I got and sell my hf manni.and get one with an external wastegate flange.Fiero -god you are right I have found that external wastegates are more acurate at keeping a set boost.Thanks.
The turbo is a Garrett with a .42cool side and .63hot side.Is this ok?

Don't get a DRAG manifold. IMO they suck because the wastegate comes right off the #1 cylinder runner. It's better if the wastegate bypasses an equal amount of exhaust from each cylinder.

It should be good ,i don't see why not. Im just wondering about the lag cause that is bigger then my hotside ( T3 hot.60 cold.63 ) and im installing my turbo on a v6.

What do you guys think if I get a wastegate flange welded where the o2 bund is on my HF manniand move my o2 to the down pipe. That would put it right in the center.Ya think that would work?
