bad day of racing at out local 1/8th mile track, pics and videos

this is a cut and paste quote from another forum i'm on.
the camaro belongs to my buddies family. it's a pretty impressive car, the crx in the pics was running mid 6's in the 1/8th mile.
the owner of the crx had $12k into the engine, a 6sec 1/8 mile run in an all motor honda is pretty impressive to me, but for $12k. ---- that ----
this was a toys for tots charity event. it was free to get in and free to race. just had to bring in a $10 unwrapped toy. they were taking donations to cover the track workers and stuff like that.
i guess the track prep was not done properly. i'm not sure why cause i wasn't there, but the guy i'm quoting said the announcer got on the speakers and apologized to everyone. he said they couldn't prep the track correct. they shut down the track after the camaro and crx crashed.
i'm pretty sure no one was hurt

the videos kinda suck...

Pinks All Out @ Rockingham killed two cars due to poor track prep, too. What's so stupid about it is you can usually see a couple cars get squirrelly before one loses control... but no one ever does anything until the worst happens. It's only ------- obvious. :1 :1 :1 :1 :1 :1 :1

Think about it when you sign your life away entering the property (waiver) and you wanna race?????

Cage is NOT a option............but a requirement!

Mind you that cage was NOT up to spec for class, but it still held the driver safely.

That sucks for the guy with his CRX and the camaro for sure. Camaro guy though shouldn't have tried to peddle the car as much as he did. It is pretty obvious, even from just the audio that it was spinning quite a bit the whole run, should have aborted the run and 2 cars would still be together to race another day.

Looks like the whitfields old crx. Mid 10 sec car. In all my years at the track I have never seen that happen. Lots of vw's on their roofs though.

That's at Barona drag strip, usually a VERY well prepped track and extremely good traction... but I wasn't there that day so who knows

Sad when at the beginning of the day you can tell someone will be losing it eventually. When the first 3/4 of the cars catch nothing but spin for 2-3 gears, its a problem

you in san diego Pdub?
the track prep was bad, all of the racers were having traction issues, even slow civics.

yeah.... its fun going there because of all the hot chics that show up, but the track sucks! I refuse to race my mustang there!!!! And dont get me started on the techs, they were bitching about about my battery hold down, but were letting people race with tires that were splitting down the seems that were showng metal wire coming off the tires! WTF :8

Used to live about 7 miles from Barona. Then again I haven't been there in 6 months so I'm not sure how the up-keep is now. I don't live anywhere near an asphault drag strip now so I got into Sand Drags, and boat Drags. That sucks the track there wasn't prepped well, I used to take my Orange '70 Challenger there and never had issues with wheel spin and a 9" wide tire. Hope to make it down there this summer though
