I was plannin on doing a monster H22a in my 98 hatchie
but my buddy has a B16A2 complete swap ecu mounts all for $2000 SHould I "jump" on this deal or wait it out for the big boy I want to run mid 13's when all is said I done and I know the b16 will need something chime in peeps |
Re: B16A2 should I go for it
If it was me I'd jump on the B. Mostly because I'm impatient though. O0

Re: B16A2 should I go for it
I would go for the B16A2 It weighs a little bit lighter than the H22 and it'll be an easier, less stressful swap. It's pretty much a bolt in swap.
Check out the pros and cons of both engines here.>http://www.honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=878010 Here they are if your to lazy like me to click links. B16 These can be found in the JDM SIR and SIRII (among other JDM cars, which I don't claim to know all of which it came in) as well as the USDM 99-00 SI (EM1) and the 99-00 Canadian SIR. Pros 160 hp stock High RPM power Fairly inexpensive Good transmission DOHC VTEC Cons 113ft/lbs torque (very little more than a D16z6 stock) Without knowing what you're looking for you can end up with a high mileage JDM model Under 4k or so it feels just like a D16 H22/JDM F20B Pros 200 hp H22=156 ft/lbs torque F20B=145 ft/lbs torque Great torque DONT WEIGH THAT MUCH MORE THAN A B SWAP!! http://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=684550 Cons Harder to install than a B/D motor transmission feel is vague IMHO Less info out there for the swap (aka, less experience as they are less common) Price of swap is comperable to a B18C5 after everything is said and done (mounts, etc) |
Re: B16A2 should I go for it
it really all comes down to which cost less. If getting th H22 cost less then go for that instead. It has more power

Re: B16A2 should I go for it
thx for the quality info wow
this swap is still in his hatch so Im gonna go for a ride in it and see how I like it first |
Re: B16A2 should I go for it
I know jack ---- about those engines, besides what was posted above. It seems to me like an H22 would be a more bad-ass engine. More displacement gives you more of an advantage, plus you got to love torque.

Re: B16A2 should I go for it
well he wants 2k for the entire swap
h22 on hmotors is like 3800 lol |
Re: B16A2 should I go for it
is that including the swap? if not ---- that go for the B. you could put the diff of money to make the B faster.

Re: B16A2 should I go for it
yea on hmotorsonline.com The B16A2 complete changeover is $2200 and the H22 engine, tranny, & ECU is $3600

Re: B16A2 should I go for it

he's been driving the piss out of it maybe Ill just save another thousand and go H22a wonder what an H22a 98 hatch would run |

Re: B16A2 should I go for it
hmotorsonline can lick my balls... everyone will always tell you how clean there motors are when they came and what not, because the rattle spray the valve cover, and basicly repaint everything so it looks new, but there still old engines just like everyone sells. they get to much credit imo.... only thing they provide is another engine in case the one they give you fails. witch most companies do anyway.... just look for the best deal and price, all these JDM motors come from the same place and no one relizes that when they buy one.
just wanted to vent on that :) |
Re: B16A2 should I go for it
jeez 3k something for an h22... that's a bogus deal. I coulda got a complete prelude front clip for 3k something.

Re: B16A2 should I go for it
No ----, H22's can be found for like 1500 for the complete swap(minus mount kit). Just look around on ebay.

Re: B16A2 should I go for it
I think the B16a2 is a better investment, say for example you decide you want more out of you car, the b16 will have more options than the h22 and will cost less, because they ar more popular, and from what I heard the blocks arre really shitty incase you want to turbo it.. b series all the way
|
Re: B16A2 should I go for it
2k is too much....i paid 1300 for my longblock and trans/mounts which was a bit high for me....then 50 for axles
|
Re: B16A2 should I go for it
just buy an LS, better engine all around compared to a B16. h/f series would be way to much work
