Default b series trannys

hi,

wasn't sure if this should go in the hybrid forum or general forum. if it is not correct, I apologize.

I'm looking for some info on b series trannys, since I'll be doing a b series turbo swap in the future(b18b).I think I got the basic info, sir being the shortest gears followed by the gsr then the ls.with my 99 cx hb at 120km in 5th my rpm's are at 3200.this is my my daily driving speed, since 99% of my driving is on the freeway. what would be the b series equivalent for similar ratio's? GSR or LS tranny? I want somthing that will get decent gas milage.I did read some info on honda swap, but I don't know if I'm understanding it correctly.apperantly my fifth gear is .702 with a final drive of 3.722. gsr 5th gear is .787 with a final drive of 4.40 and ls with a 5th gear of .714 and final of 4.266 . so would this mean the ls would be the closest to my current d series tranny?smaller numbers= longer gears correct.what about swapping gears is this possable? say swap an ls 5th gear into gsr tranny ect? every one says the ls tranny sucks for performance since it's gears are so long, but I don't wanna go with the gsr if my fuel econ. is gonna go way down the crapper.what would whould the aprox rpm be for the gsr tranny at 120km? sorry for my non understanding of gear ratios, I'm more into electronics and *****.it won't be for quite a while (I'm not even done with the d series turbo setup yet) but would like to know what I should be looking for in case I come across a good deal.
Thanks,
B

stick with the LS tranny since you do a lotta freeway driving and want to save gas. if you get the gsr you'll around 4k rpms at 60-70 mph. I dont know what that is in khm. But you will be faster with the gsr.

Just get the SIR tranny. It will be faster. I have a B16A in my 91 CRX and get 31mpg. I dont know that conversion in kph, but its almost as much as a civic dx. If I dawg it a lot every day it goes down to 29pmg.

if you want low rpms on the high this should be your order of preference in terms of tranny: LS > GSR > B16

If acceleration is important to you: B16 > GSR > LS

I like the GSR tranny personally but its your call.

you can get a gsr tranny and install a ls 5th gear. Lots of people do this, just don't expect when your rapping it out in 4th to slam it into 5th and get put in your seat. But it will put you where you want to be on the freeway.

I'm curious, how do you do that. Can i use a cable LS tranny 5th gear and put it into the gsr hydro Since i have an extra LS cable tranny.

I think you have to stick with the same type of tranny.
hydro to hydro or cable to cable. I read somthing about the spines being different . I'll see if I can find where I read it.
