i'm on an autocross message board and I can tell you those guys argue and get picky as all hell over their tires... they are fricking serious; they will take a bone stock car and buy two sets of r compound sticky rubber per season. just to run in a stock class. their advice on how to spend money on a car:
1. tires 2. driving school I say ---- that, I like working on my car better ;D |

I need to get into auto-x. Looks fun. How long have you been doing auto-x?
|
Re:autocross in texas!!! (pics)
nice looks fun. you hit any cones?
|
Re:autocross in texas!!! (pics)
i amazingly did not hit a single cone or DNF. a lot of people said that i did an excellent job drving for the first time in a timed autocross event. it was such a blast, and i will be at it again this sunday in my home town of austin, texas. i can't wait. i also have two videos of my car at the autoX, but i have to wait for onyx to give me space on his ftp to post up the vids!

Re:autocross in texas!!! (pics)
I tried autocross about two years ago. I only went three times... it was pretty fun, I wasn't nearly good enough to compete--I just mainly went to have fun driving my car at the limit without breaking the law. ;D But for only getting two 1:30 minute runs, having to run around for 3 hours picking up cones people run over (rules are rules), and taking 6 hours out of your day, I decided it wasn't worth it.
Edit: Oh yeah I forgot about the fact that it costs like $35 too. :P |
Re:autocross in texas!!! (pics)
i'm signed up for an auto-x event in nc tomorrow ;D i'll definitely have pics, and hopefully video too (depending on if my boy brings his digi camcorder). this is my first time and i can't wait, i feel like tomorrows my birthday or something. so your tires didn't hold good? i have the same tires on 17's. also, your mods, a gsr head on a zc??

Re:autocross in texas!!! (pics)
no the tires compared to others held descent, but to be able to take the crxs handling capabilities to the limit, you have to have slicks. even with the tires squeling like a pig, the g forces where tremendous an it was the best time i have ever had in my car. it is not a gsr head on a zc, it is a gsr header (exhaust mani) redrilled to fit the zc. i got the gsr piece for free so i decided to make it work. whenever you buy a zc engine it usually comes with the upper part of a 4-2-1 exhaust manifold which is basically useless, but i found that the gsr downpipe section bolts right to the zc manifold giving you a very nice factory 4-2-1 exhaust manifold. it also flows very well. the only downside is the weight of the mani. sorry for the long post, just wanted to clear up some confusion!
